I have a single working 1850 in lockup so if someone cud bring another i dont mind changin 2 of my rhinos. think mk3 and 1850 is pretty silly so i'm told

What's needed is a Staip Mk1, the first one he did with an 1850 in it.

Don't own 1850, got some MDF though, and I'm fairly close to Bristol.

Did this with a few mods and V1200.
Well documented here and other side.
V1200 didn't have enough control, extended rear baffle 75mm and made 36mm (two pieces), was very, very deep sounding box. After I sold they had TM1200's.

I think this would be very interesting up against SM etc.
I aint no Roots guy though, so could be well off the mark.Big smile
Can say that Rhino had loads more energy, but not as deep as I built that too.

Staip Mk2 looks interesting but many sound guy say dogleg is a killer?
Mk 3 very close to Rhino.

Ying Yang

PS. Sometone should bring a PD loaded Staip Micro 15" jobby.

Ebony Showcase is not frightened at all. We are now trying to build on our BNE sucsess. And making some money from playing out now... As we don't seem to be popular winners of th BNE 2011. The hardest thing in life will be trying to stay at the top as everyone seems to want to knock us down already. But that's the sound business nothing new

Badly written by me.

I meant the way the deep back baffle evolved.

As for the Rhino, I know the man I sold mine to uses tham for R&B with great effect, the Rhino can kick as well, much more all round cab IMHO.

There will be 2 of each minis. We will run them together and then single and compare.
Because every Driver is different and take different power to perform, The boxes will be first
tested with equal input on 1 particular track, then the controls will be given to the owners of the
boxes to drive as hard as they feel their boxes can handle.

Any other ideas on test conditions please feel free to share

kutty what u doing to me!!!! my car will know its own way to the black swan soonLOLlooking forward to this also, looking forward to hearing ass mini (at last)and a few more un known combos!!!!reakon for shear spl the sman mk1 may have the edge, but for throw judging by what i heard all ready, marvs and the qss/ultimate mini with 51 in will be ahead.....only a pure guess mind, also like to hear the ass mini with a tmax in out of interest,
another question?????noticed most of the minis out there have med to large chamber,so is it that a small chamber mini with its reduced horn length (compared to a full)just sounds to cold and not like a scoop??????

Ok People!! Had to make a tough decision. Due to circumstances, some of the people bringing their boxes on Sunday had to pull out. As it stands only RX JNR and Ultimate can make it. so unfortunately we have to postpone the shootout until another day.

Think that might be a bit long...

How about full scoop shootout, then mini shootout...

Then shootout for 2x best minis vs 2x best full scoops..

"Personally", my judgement will be what I hear from each cab.

If I was arranging this,

Wouldn't be any measurement, or blind test, or sine waves, or curtains, or white coats.

  • Would be each cab tested at same position, with same track
  • Other cabs outside the room,
  • Panel of 3x judges, and crowd voting. Crowd vote is 33% of mark overall.
  • Cab combo Elimation, until 2x cabs left.
  • Combos,  marked on Throw, SPL, Sub extension, comparison with SteveB full scoop
  • In final, one of the tests will be max spl possible (within owners remit)

Many people won't agree with above, but don't care.. Been to enough of these shootouts, and gigs using minis,  to know what's relevant in a test, and what isn't.

i'm more interested in private session, similar to what you did at workshop with tek, but with x2 of selected cabs. public things get too political and more energy would go into pleasing other people or clarifying why you're doing what you're doing etc if you get me? i reckon it would turn it into a long day and take the fun out of it. surely between a few of us we can get the needed cabs, book a £100 hall, between 8 people would only be £12.50 each.

LOL

In this "financial climate", I can bet there are many under arch industrial premises vacant due to business closure.

Sure one of these could be located/rented for a day, with good parking/access, and away from residential areas. Wink

ligwa col 1000 is old new!! we have to new mini a 21" mini and two new 18" mini. Are there any rules this time?   last time they made the rules as there went along.

let me get this clear I can use what ohms I want, what size driver I want, when it comes to mini scoops it Ligwa's  first name. one driver, one mini, best all round bass sound and overall cost of the mini to end user

if these are the factors lets get it on........................

Think we need to drug test your mini's before they are allowed to compete.. LOL

"Personally",  I'd say 8 ohm cab whether 21 or 18", Bad enough different size drivers. LOL (mykey & ligwa, typical)..

If is 1x cab test, bridged amp will power it easily, whatever it is.

Since is a "mini" scoop ting, should also be height restriction, suggestions ?
