I want to make a pair of mt122's with only a single mid driver similar to those that can be seen in the 'Doms system' photos but have no idea how to convert the plans on this website. Ideally i'd like to be able to leave the tops in but that isn't essential. Any ideas?

just shorten tda side pannels. whats so difficult in just building 'part' of da box?

surely it wont neccesarily be that simple...wont it affect the sound unless u make sure the correct internal volume is left?

the internal chambers are sealed individually, if you do as three bee suggests you wont have any problems with the volume.

Look at the plan and ya will c that u can easily 'shorten' da cab to just under da rear chamber.... Go on, take a look...

we've been building our single driver variants of these cabs for a while,
they've been tricky and we've been very busy. we also scaled to a 10"
driver, making the maths a bit more messy.the main challenge we have
and still face to some extent is the construction of the vertical horn
components owing to their complex mitring requirements.

have a look at julz's pictures (linked somewhere in the mt122 group),
building the baffle and flare up off of one side looks to be a sensible
method. scaling to one driver involves just mirroring one end essentially,
so that's not really the hardest bit.

oh yeah, even as a single 10 it is still pretty heavy. i like the idea of
having the scalability, flexibility and relative portability of single driver
variants though. i'm desperately hoping our efforts are worth the labour...

hey james why didnt you just use the mt102 plans!! ( designed for a 10")?

scaling down speaker cabinets for randomly sized drivers doesnt work on its own, unless you take the driver parameters into consideration over the throat and rear chamber and flare rate.. and then you find its no longer an mt122!!

just a thought

i know, i know. we did consider this in some detail but our tens don't
match those specced for the mt102 anyway. there is an element of
prototyping going on here, we wanted a single 10" arrayable horn fot the
12 nice midrange drivers we have and this format seemed a good place to
start.

whilst i know what you mean about rear chamber volume, throat and the
like, i would have thought that the dispersion characteristics would
remain similar. thing is, it is really hard to model a mid horn so we
thought we'd go for an adaptation of an existing design and then make
regular sacrifices to the gods of audio.

they are now very nearly finished, i shall post in feedback forum when
we've had them out in anger and let you know if it all went horribly
wrong.
