okay, i've just joined this forum hoping someone here can help me with maybe hooking up two power amps together. i've just bought two 500w rms speakers and a 2 channel power amp. i'm looking to get two bassbins to go with these speakers soon and obviously these would have to run off a seperate amp right? i've got no technical knowledge with electronics/speakers but i'd like to know how to go about linking two amps together; would i need anything to plug the two amps into and then i'd just have to plug the input into that device? pretty much all im looking to do is have two speakers and two bassbins powered but my guess is that i'd need two seperate amps and hook them up together.. i've read something about bridging amps, is that all i'd need to do? |

Welcome to the forum! Not bridging, that is where the two channels in the amp link together to make one, more powerful output. You will need a crossover, this splits the sound input into two or more outputs. It also splits the outputs by frequency, so you would have only bass frequencies in one output and and only treble frequencies in the other. For now, you could plug an input directly into your amp, when you get bass bins (and a crossover) give some details on here and people'd be happy to help you set it up... ------------- I think I'm in love with your mum. |

thanks for the reply! i have just been looking at crossovers but am just getting myself confused as to how i'd set it up. would it go something like this: Crossover > One amp plugged into channel one of crossover (Bass), and the other connected to channel two of the crossover (Trebble) The other thing i'm curious about is whether i'd still need a mixer hooked up as i'd be able to control the bass and trebble through the crossover wouldn't i? |

think of it like this: Mixer (where you can control the adjust the eq of the whole 'sound')---->Cross over (which splits that overall sound into bass/mid/treble)----->signal goes to amps and speakers for bass/mid/treble. ------------- http://www.music4thepeople.co.uk/ |

| the whole point in me getting two subs is so i can hook them up to my other amps.. so say two amps linked up to a crossover, and then the two subs going to the crossover too. maybe i'd just need to put the subs straight to the crossover instead of going through an amp as some have built in amps |

If you did get powered subs, as nuclear says, it would more than likely have a crossover built in. So you could plug your mixer into the sub, then there would also be an output from the sub with just the treble frequencies that you could plug into your existing amp and speakers. Mixer -> powered bass speaker -> midtop amp -> midtop speakers Or with a passive bass bin: Mixer -> crossover -> midtop amp -> midtop speakers ¦_____> bass amp -> bass speakers Either way would also work if you only wanted to get one sub. A single powered sub would still have a stereo output for the midtop speakers... ------------- I think I'm in love with your mum. |
