I thought i'd share my latest pics of what i've been up to.. Thanks to Shambala festival for helping me to realise it.
The new mid and top cabs, on top of a terrahorn:

Closeup of the mids and tops:

The mid cab fits inside the terrahorn cutout, for transportation. (excuse the dirty abused terrahorns)

Front view:

Rear view, (note i didn't have time to make the rear access hatches, and it's all a bit dirty from being rained on through a leaky talc covered parachute!)
I quite like the curvy tesselation:

In its natural habitat:

Really nice panorama of the main woodland setup at Shambala:

Looking out from the soundsystem:

I've put a bit more info of the whole experience and some technical aspects of the cabs on a blog:

*Edit: added pics of mid in terra cutout.

that is some proper awesome cabinet building skills gone into that, looks beautiful!!
can imagine van packing that and keeping it secure is a bit of a nightmare though?
Whens it coming southwest then?

cheers guys
If you had seen my van on the way there... trust me, there wasn't an inch of space left, everything properly wedged in , saying that though, it's only the tops that have to be carefully packed as the mids fit in the terrahorns..

Cheers Mykey, i'm realy pleased i managed to pull it all off and get them done in the end.. i would iron out a few things if/when i make some more, as you probably well know, sometimes you just have to make a load and see how they physically work together.. then i just need to think about the final touches and rigging points/system as i used ratchets through the handles for shambala to pull em all together..
will take a photo now of mid in cutout.. *edit oops, no i won't girlfriend took her camera to a hen night, hopefully tomorrow..

They kinda hook there, as the curves 'mate' each other, but when ratcheted through each other, and being a trapezoid wedge with a front hook they hold position, but i did ratchet them either end to the mids, and the mids to the terra's for munter safety.

Thanks , too much time! at points it's been a real brain f*ck to make things work how i wanted, combining the acoustics with aesthetics and practicality.. and then actually building the stupid things! lol, but i am very happy so far, with a few tweeks still to go..

Beyma 12p80nd and I'm impressed, I decided to go for a three way system, and thought if it was lacking kick I would play with a really slimline tapped horn or something to slip inbetween, but the plots looked good without it and crossing to the terras at 120hz seems perfect. The mid horns are quite long so able to play lower than most whilst still having a tight throat with a compression ratio around 3:1 and they play high enough to meet the 1" comps on the O.S. waveguide happily.

Thanks Fordy, but i've been trying to work out what kind of medal it would be, maybe for designing two curvy cabs that don't have a single 90deg cut between them .. but it should probably go to my girlfriend for missing her birthday drinks while i made them in time for Shambala..

Was waiting to see this being realised, great idea especially given the huge size of a Terra! Are you planning to make the mids fit a bit more snugly, perhaps via a cover or some kind of locking pin or catch arrangement?

You've really got me thinking there Mykey.. but i imagine a grand is for enough space to have a single terra stack.. i'd probably have to sit in it, lol, and 24 days to go!

It's kinda useful to have a bit of space to get them in, and they slide in nicely, i'm trying to work out how to make some sort of flyware to attach them as a stack, but they are quite snug for transport, maybe not enough room for covers, but it would be nice if it was possible.

That would be by far the best system at bpm. Lol
Last year void had a single bin and staysys prime (I think) in a tiny mono stack and it was nearly knocking people over as they walked past. A room full of plastic 15's cabs being caned to death somehow makes these real systems sound even more impressive.

I would love to, but I don't think it's really that viable at such short notice tbh, and the only booths they have left are in the quiet zone also -70db.. a fraction of a watt!.. maybe next year, unless theres another stallholder/exhibitor that wants to use some on their display stand..

I really don't want to openly discredit them, but suffice to say i wish i had as much money , and where my knowledge falls down i try not to make up new phrases to compensate... although i do like to think i have designed around solid and modern principles.

Dispersion was designed to be 40deg -6dB at crossover point, each cab has 10deg trap angle either side, so 20deg total, the tops (oblate spheroids) are the only way to currently control dispersion with minimal narrowing of beamwidth so effectivly. So there is a slight overlap as ALL speakers have when arrayed whatever their initial dispersion, and made more prominent the farther away you are. Having said that, due to their very controlled dispersion characteristics, when walking around them at Shambala many people commented on how even and clear they sounded, there were no perceptable nulls, and they seemed to work perfectly.. although i still need to run the sweeps on them to clarify.
