Date Posted: 05 September 2011 at 2:48am

Sunday 2nd October 2011

Featured Sounds:-

WASSIE ONE (Sth London)

MOTION54 (Sound-Off Promoters)

QUANTRO TONE (Birmingham/Norwich)

Plus our special guests:-
TONY ROSSELL aka A.S.S. with Selector DJ AL GREY
(showcasing the new A.S.S. R2U System)

SOUNDS CAN BRING NO MORE THAN 4 SUBS IN ORDER TO GIVE EACH SOUND ROUGHLY LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.

 Location:-
GOLDEN PALACE BANQUETING SUITE,
Unit 39 Hastings wood Trading Estate,
Harbet Street,
London
N18 3HU

Below is a map and directions to help you locate venue.

The blue spot roughly marks where venue is located on map.

I suggest approaching from the Argon Rd end of Harbet Rd.
Follow the road up passing car pound on your left and as the road starts to bend to the left past the first large trading estate, you should see on your right, signs for "Hasting Wood Trading Estate" and "Golden Palace" and  "Eddies Cafe"

Turn right into estate and go through barrier by pressing buzzer and asking for access to Golden Palace.
Continue pass the first building on your right and then turn right and continue straight ahead.

You will see "Eddie's Cafe" and "Golden Palace" straight in front of you...........you have arrived!!!

Greetings guv, respect on your contribution to keeping sound systems alive..

Think maybe an idea to allow systems to carry 6x scoops/subs (1x stack only) to this venue guv..LOL

Which will also expose, which sub amps "have had their Weetabix"..LOL

well we'll know which amps who had Weetabix from 4 subs rather than 6 some amps jus have Cream Crackers

Yes, I'm dicing with the idea of allowing 6 sub boxes in the very near future.
The venue can handle 6-8 subs easily!!

I've stuck to 4 at the moment so to give the smaller sounds a chance take part without feeling intimidated by the bigger sounds rolling in with gigantic stacks!!!

This event is set to evovle!

Also, Quontro Tone from the Midlands who bring a national element to the proceedings!

Big up Motion54 for yet another interesting event Clap

Noticed Quantro dropped out last minute and you were unable to get a replacement sound.
Lots and i mean lots of sound men engineers builders etc in attendance.
Let me just say Wassie one is a example why you don't need the most expensive and bass heavy sound system to rock a crowd, Wassie can and did just that, dubplate, 7",45's you name it he played it with his typical style of vibesing....even had me skanking my big toe....nice vibes WassieThumbs Up
It was nice to see Tony ASS with his new kit, think he had some sort of technical but wow that mic section was crispThumbs Up
Motion54 is the name a take on the Ethiopians engin54.......??????
Nice to see Motion54 participating in his own event, yes you could also hear that they were having a few technical and seeing all the advise passed to Motion we may and i say may see them with a pre of some description next time out.Big smile

Yeh, had a good time last night. Nice running into some old faces. Vibes was nice. My opinion, Tony's top section and Motion 54 bass would have been an extremeley serious set. Re-inforced what I've always believed, a good big box will out perform a good small box every time. Spoke to 2 owners of RX18's. One said normal RX18 just as good as the DC and another said the DC  has the edge. The DC's were certainly very impressive. Looking forward to the next one.

Big up each and every.

Agree with most of that.

The old RX18 and S118 throw much further.

Don't know if RX18DC+1851 does'nt throw the goodness as far as S118+1850, due to cab, or driver, or lack of power, or all three.

Motion54 tops at times sounded seriously clean, with minimal no of top cabs.Clap ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.

Would like to hear few other drivers in RX18DC.Wink ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.

I just want to thank all who attended and supported this highly entertaining event, yesterday.
Also want to thank WassieOne, Tony A.S.S, firstly for turning up and making lastnight a success.

Quontro Tone pulled out at eleventh hour but this allowed each sound to play an extra 5mins each hour.

Our 1st time playing in these types of event. Although we are a party sound, we can hold our own musically and vibewise and we enjoyed every bit of it!!!!!

Soundsystemwise, I know we still have work to do in making our set sound how it should. ie our top end wasn't right and bass wasn't there like when it played it last just using 2 scoops in a lockup.
This is a new set for us and we are still learning About it.

WassieOne was very entertaining as per usual and his mic section as well as his top end requires no adjustment!!!..........just sounded full and sweet. WassieOne got some big forwards in the one4one!!

Tony A.S.S's stack I feel weren't given a chance to shine like I've heard they play before.
Turntables were holding system back as I believe they were positioned too close to stack.
This set came more alive when I played a decently mastered mp3 file from my laptop, on Tony's set!!

Dj Al Grey played extremely well, considering he has never been to, let alone play at one of these events before!!!
I heard him play a couple party/club dj reggae which some people frowned at but I wouldve done the same, 2 females were standing in front of my set, also!!!!!

I havent been to loads of SOUNDCHECK events, but I enjoyed this one the most..............but maybe that was because we were doing what we do best......
..........entertaining and playing sound!

As much as this is a platform to play and test your sound, I think we are entertAiners first, and soundmen 2nd, because to us, sometimes you have to work with what you got and make
Sure you do what you came to do..... Entertain!!!!!!

I would love for the R2U system to make a return to the golden palace but used differently as I know there's a lot more to come from it.
We will go back and seen what adjustments we need to make to our set also.

A big thanks to all who gave us their sound advice.

PeaceOut!!

Respect Motion54 for putting on a WICKED night. Best sound check, entertainment wise, I been to.
Sound systems were a little disapointing imo. Not saying they were bad, but I expected more.

ASS R2U system was very clean all round, but a little too clean for roots/reggae music. The Mids and tops were crystal clear reflecting in one of the best mic section I have ever heard. Bass was nice and mellow but lacked GRUNT. I expected a lot more from the RX Jnrs. A pre amp might have made a difference although I think Tony was let down by the lack of power from the Matrix amps (though he might not admit that)Wink. You could see and hear the amp reaching its limit way before the speakers got to theirs. Wicked big man tunes from Mr GreyThumbs Up

Motion 54 also with a complete ASS setup, they too were sounding nice and clean. Mids and tops could have been a little sharper at times but that could have been down to poor laptop quality music. Loved those PD loaded full size ASS Scoops. Made the rx jnr look like juniors for sure.LOL
But still think there should have been more GRUNT from them and they didn't fill the room like other sounds have in previous events. Top selection of tunes too. The Cocoa T in the tune fi tune surely had me jumpin and that kicked off the vibesThumbs Up

Wassie Wassie Wassie! well well Wassie! ClapClapClap. Not the heaviest or the cleaness sound, but for sure one of the most entertaining sound I've heard at these sound checks. The subs were nice but weak and the tops were a bit piercing but I don't think anyone really cared once the sellection kicked in.

Overall The most entertaining Sound Check to date by a long way. Expected more from the sounds but that was made up by the entertainment.

well my quick view [stayed about 1.30 hrs ] NONE of the sounds sounded complete all had something wrong with or i was expecting more from them motion 54 had decent bass but only on certain tracks Wink but not as amazing as some other sounds at these sound checks not enough midtop clarity
tonys jnr system sounded like a jnr system no different to other mini sounds that have played in that particular venue was expecting more from the system [heard] that earlier it sounded heavier but my view was based on what i heard in the time i was there
wassie was like shaka you go for the vibe /music not sound
looked like a nice vice vibe jason why aint your brother there flinging some of those dub tunez he loves

I hear that, but still..  Any one can sound heavy with 12+ scoops.

Sign of a truly "heavy" sound, would be shaking that place to bits with 8x scoops.

JTS 6x Scoops run off 1x 3U amp in Scala, was almost on par with Shanti's 8x scoops (driven by "possibly" 4x amps) couple of years ago. Embarrassed

If I'm honest peeps, I've not heard for a very long while a decent 3 section/stack for years LOL Brixton town hall had nuff takers, but they where not too effective Exclamation

However the Golden Palace venue, will define a true complete soundsystem of that size Thumbs Up & not just bass, but everything else, good mids, good kicks if required, good tops, good mic.... LOL, most of us only sound check our sounds with 1 or 2 sections, but 3 sections is not in everyones remit.....................

I'd very much love to hear a good 3 or 2 section indoors, (a 12 bass box sound), tearing down the Golden Palace LOL..........

Peace.................... Big smile

Yes would be good to hear 3 section system, but still know plenty systems like Touch Above,  WSP, Shanti could smash GP with only 8x scoops..

Know too many sound man selling off part of their sound due to storage costs or reduced playouts, so now their priority is efficiency, not quantity.

fully agreed Surfa, I had to put some pepper into the ting, jus didn't want the same ol same ol where one sound play then next & so on, the banter ting is what I love & deal wid but Al Grey hasn't never played in that type of thing so wasn't musically prepared but it's a learning curve

If you have a good sound, good dj's , good following and people are happy to pay to hear you play then there is no problem with playouts or storage cost.

again there are good sound systems and there are bad sound system

... cant see your beloved 'big' systems spending money to attend with their sound. this IS the point... sound- off for up and coming systems... and i rather attend sound off's than say uod these days, as there is more fire in it. the 'big' systems are making money ... and maybe with that, losing sight of what Roots and Culture events are truly about.

4 scoops is fine... no one said they had big system? gotta remember not everyone has cash to burn on storage, van hire, amps etc. and have heard only 3 scoops hitting the spot in GP so why we need 12?

and yes your right, funny as it may seem, the guys with ''no sound system'' are the ones making all the noise, ..... showing up big names!

4 ligwa mini with support from matrix soundman with expensive drivers couldn't touch bass from 2nd hand scoops, xb's n a dirty ole crown.... which i had only owned for a year or so. Motion54 .... first time out plays lower, louder bass than ASS .... with ASS cabs!!!!!!! how crazy is that!?

this is only my opinion as i see it.

so maybe a lil Respect is due! BIGGUP Pro- motion 54... Wicked event.
