From the plans available on the internet. Which would make the best Dance stack? (Large visually imposing stack of speakers) I was thinking 2 G subs per stack with a barn door extension, and either a dual X215 ( an X 15 extended to fit 2 15's inside it) And Some sort of constant directitivity horns array.  All Active.

I was talking to an engineer I know and he chewed me out over wanting to build a system out of old stuff like the EAW BH882 and JBL 2395. I like it but apparently it's not good stuff.

1850s, HD15s, xtros. Yes there's overlap but it would be imposing.

This is what you want! that's what I call imposing
Edit: A Wattco system from Mykey

i think labs realy do look bad boy as a lump of bass, i gues you could almost streatch em to xtros, although better and more imposing with usb es 18 between. anyone actualy run a rig like that? not herd this combo exactly myself

pssst, no way Sam. Only if you like 100hz!

You'd want some badboy FLH / BP6 between 20-80hz - to get some height (Tops need to go OVER peoples heads, not straight at the poor person in front of it). Think 18"/21".

Straight hornloaded 15"s, either ported or sealed chamber. 80-240hz. Think impulse response for fast bass.

Hornloaded 10" 240hz-2hz to 1.5" / 1" compression drivers. With a sprinking of bullets on top for the cats in the audience.

.. Maybe?

Or cross between mid/bass and mid higher to 400hz to get a sweeter 8" in the mid horn

Reflex cabs I should have specified. 1850's are too much for ANYTHING I do.

12 TSW-121s,

8 TSE-218s,
4 TMS-3 V2
anything else just looks and bit, well, small, quiet and with 4 x PL 9.0 1x PL 6.0 and 2 x PL 2.0 driving it 5 way really made some rather nice sounds, the fact the whole lot looked like it may have anal sex with your Gran, if it wanted just adds to the fun...

Punisher Dance Stack. VERY nice work, is that a Funktion one unit on the very top? and what are the two boxes in the middle?

I think the Turbo sound stack costs more than my car.

Nice Timebomb. Think I've seen those kick sections before on a rig, with tiny, tiny tops above it.

Re the fairplay/Wattco system:

You know, if that had been painted standard black, no one would take any notice .. but painted that blue, it really stands out.

Sometimes, I think ppl paint stuff black so it looks "no worse than anyone elses" ... and sometimes you really want people to notice! ... bit of paint really does make a difference!

these guys reckon that their stack sounds the same as funktion, (they've used FK1 drivers you see!)its based in london and it really doesn't sound that good.

Those guys hire a rack of amps from us to drive that system, you'll see our rack case on the left.
Nice to know they're going to fields etc with it... :|

It's nicely built.. but yes... unfortunately the knowledge of processors etc is lacking somewhat.

How could they hope the  sound like Funktion 1 if for starters they don't have the plans to build FK1 boxes/ don't have the phase plug?

The low mid looks naughty, how and what are they loaded with? I can't figure out if its a short double small driver based horn or a single loaded flare, do you have more pictures?

You can see the access panels on the side, drivers are right behind them with magnet almost touching, horn does a quick 180 to minimize path length differences on the turn.

yes,  2360 horns.  the driver is a JBL 2451J neo 1.4" compression driver with an adaptor which converts it into a 2" exit, 2450J.  The adaptor is made from turned birch and is made to the exact dimensions to match the 2450J flare rate.

I did explain this to them but they insisted it didn't matter as they were fk1 drivers so it "must" sound good!

we used to do systems for them with 21's and res 4's apparently they consider this to sound better, each to there own i suppose!

And here in lies the problem, I would imagine that lot outputs a lot more SPL than the FK boxes would with the same drivers in (face it they'll have used Fane driver, not FK ones as getting raw drivers out of FK1 is not easy for very obvious reasons), a total lack of control and phase coherence will certainly grab your ear more than a Res 4 will...

This has overtures of me quoting to put 60Kw of TMS-3/18/21s in for a party becuase a called Stacey tuff had done the last gig with 45KW (all home made that he manged to get into a single transit!!) and it wasn't enough!!!!
When I explained I would need 30' in either an artic or a 20 tonne truck to get 60KW to the gig a few home truths started to settle...

No one at FK knows any where near as much about top end PA as you average promotor does, I just wish all these audio genius' had time in their busy schedule to pop over the the farm and give John and Tony a few pointers as they are obviously overcomplicating things and need some guidance!!
