What does everyone think is the best driver for the Sub18 enclosure?

The 700w or is the 1200w worth it?

However there are reflex drivers better than 18TBX100, which also sound better in that cab.

Simon, what is your verdict of the XS?

Cheers,

Not heard personally, but told Turbomax 1000 almost untouchable in this cab, given enough power.

Not sure if porting adjusted, don't think would be needed.

Cheers,

I'm pleased with them Infrasound.  Only have a small set-up, I use them in combination with a set of 12", 2" mid/tops.  They work well together.  Originally heard them at a test event organised by Mikeybear.  He had a pair of B&C Sub18's loaded with Fane SB's.  PauliePaul brought along an XS to make the comparison. Noticeable difference, sounded a lot deeper.  However, I tend to only play soul, funk, disco and house music from the 80's & 90's, so I'm not really look for heavy sub bass anyway.

Thanks for the detailed response.

I'll chalk that up as another +1 for the XS! Need to get a proper listen to them soon.... Clap

I should have mentioned I am in Canada so I'm very limited for brands, B&C being the best I have found. Let me know if there is anything better in the area!

Reading back at some threads apparently these speakers are better than B&C:

http://www.usspeaker.com/18.htm

I can't run that speaker enclosure program due to having a Mac.. would anyone be so kind as to tell me which speaker compares to the high end B&C listed on the Sub18 plans and if additional tuning would be needed.. which the best speaker would be.

We're only starting with 1 sub so I want it to be good, and that brand seems the best available near Canada.

18sound drivers would be my choice out of those. Faital, Ciare or Beyma aren't exactly bad either, though.

If anyone feels so kind as to recommend what the best sub-450 dollar speaker would suite this cabinet, it would be greatly appreciated!

Speak to Assistance Audio in the States about the BMS 18S430v2, as good as anything (and better than most) in this type of box.

The 3 nicest sounding 18"ers we've tried in our reflex boxes (slightly bigger) are in order:
Volt 4504
JBL 2242
BMS 18N850V2 may have moved up to being better than the JBL now its burned in.

I like the sound of Fane 18XBs.  There are lots of better performing woofers but I think the XBs are nice and smooth.

Hi Folks,
I have some experience of these boxes as a few clubs I look after have them installed.
They became a really popular install box from a company called CVA.
They used the b&c design & loaded them with either PD-1850 or BC 18PS76.
I have come across many of the boxes in my time & can state that all the ones loaded with the PD drivers that have destroyed themselves. The drivers, that is.
Every box I have come across loaded with the BC driver though, has survived more than 8 years of use & still going very strong.
In most of my setups the installs run 2x boxes (2x 18PS76) @ 4 ohm off one QSC 2450 in bridge mode.
If you run with a QSC, keep the limiters switched off the QSC amp as they appear to mess up the front edge of a kick drum, so use a limiter elsewhere (i.e. processor).
Also, make sure you use a high pass filter at around 30-33 Hz, usually 18db BW.
So far for me, not one driver lost in years & they always get used to the maximum (DJ's) output with limiters set to just stop the QSC amps from clipping.
The QSC amps are not the greatest things in the world in this scenario mind.
They sound a little slow & struggle slightly. But hey, in bridge they only chuck out 2400w into 4 & the BC drivers are capable of 1400 each. Transients are the real problem.
All in all though a reliable tried & tested setup for me.

Hope this helps.

hi guys,
since i live in austria i'm VERY limited when it gets to drivers (surplus of milk doesn't get me far y'know?) so i have an RCF LF18N401 at home and wanted to know if it sounds any good in the sub18. i don't have access to b&c, Beyma, JBL, etc. Cry
i'm new to the forum so excuse mistakes :P
thanks in advance

The RCF looks more a horn or BP6 driver, would probably work in a smaller enclosure. Design you own, it really is easy.

I have 2 cabs loaded with 18xbs and im very happy with the way they sound and perfom, i will soon built another two. I believe that the sub18 design can take a few drivers and all of them will sound ok. Like the pd186, 18xb and the b&c drivers.
