Browsed through five pages of this section of forum and didn't find thread like this so thought I'd make one. (I do remember seeing thread like this though)

Own (hobby)

SM12 Monitor console in wrong place, waiting for the right K3 to come up to go with the SM12
DBX, K&T, LA Audio, Lexicon & Berry rack stuff. There is also WZ 16:2 lurking on top of the rack. SM12 has a bit slow workflow for FOH work, but it surely can do it.

SM12 is monitor console built into same frame as K3 with almost same EQ and same preamp. They'd make quite nice pair for average live gigs.
BTW we paid 700 euros for fully working SM12 with case, PSU and new ribbon cabling. Nice.

Helsinki City Theatre. More I use that thing the more I love it, also the more I do mainteinance on it, the more I love it, oddly LOL

Some gear listing for gearsluts:

Cadac J mk2 three frame system currently loaded with 59 programmable dual preamp mono input modules, 20 stereo input modules,
20 motor input faders, fully programmable 16x32 digitally controlled analogue matrix, 15 DCA (VCA) faders out of which 6 are with motors.
10 mono auxes, 1 stereo aux. Four PSUs, two Seance interfaces, two SAM computers.

Effect playback is done with Stage Reseach SFX software running redundantly in paraller on two computers with four RME Fireface 800s.
Cadac triggers effects via MIDI. There are 8 stereo channels reserved in the console for SFX.

Band reverb and master bus (multiband) compressing is handled by two TC M5000 that also are controlled by Cadac via MIDI.

For bands we also have 2 DBX 160SL, Tubetech LCA 2B and Drawmer 1960.

Vocal reverbs, delays and (again multiband) bus compressing are done with TC M6000, also controlled by Cadac.
M6000 AD/the is handled by RME ADI-8 QS.

Additional vocal inserts are SPL De-esser, XTA D2, two Drawmer De-essers and two Empirical Labs Lil'Freqs. Vocal bus delaying (positioning on the stage)
is done with three XTA DP224s, controlled by Cadac.

We also have TC D-Two, TC Fireworx, TC 2290, Eventide H3000 and two DBX 120's ready for use if required, controlled by Cadac where possible.

Few years ago we ran out of input channels in the console, so we expanded it with API 8200 line mixers and two API 3124mb+ quad mic preamps.

System processing is done with six Meyer Galileos controlled by Meyer Compass software. Main part of system comprises of
18 Meyer CQ-1's and four 700-HP's. There are some 60 speakers installed in the space.

Subs are AUX-fed in three groups, Stage back, Proscenium and under seating. DBX subharmonizers, if in use, are usually also fed from auxes,
patched back to the console and then driven through auxes to subs.

All the digital gear with WC in is clocked by Anteloop Audio world clock.

*phew*
Needless to say, I consider myself quite lucky. The sound designers know their stuff, there are some nice big musicals and some proper quality
drama stuff going on that stage. With that gear, insane talent and experience in the sound team and nice acoustics it is pure heaven most of the time.

Very nice. I have only used a J series once and was a bit taken back by the sheer feel of the thing. It just feels proper. Incidentally every theatre Ive been to uses Cadac desks and usually J at that.

It's like an unspoken rule. Are they the best regarded desks on the market?

See Cadac desks a lot in the west end.  That or DiGiCo SD7Ts.  Become more popular with certain sound designers now.  Turning up in quite a lot of productions.

I'll start, we use a soundcraft GB2 but its not ours, through the project we work with mostly (only bit of kit we share) and finalley this weekend we are going to pick up our own new desk from aberdeen , GL2200 24ch ;-D

(more side of house in that instance)

teamed with :

A+H gl4000 or the Gl2200 in the second pic

Often use an o1v96, Promix01, LS9 or M7 as well - without outboard but still use a Sabine.

A very nice set up. I have recently started working in theatre just love using high end gear such as tube compressors and etc! I recently went to a major theatre hire company they had a cupboard full of J type channel strips.

I've never taken a picture of my setup. Here are some that others have taken

Desk is an Allen & Heath GL2200-24, rack now contains TC M-one xl, Lexicon MPX100, DBX 166xl, berry multicomp and multigate, 2x BSS Opal graphics (for monitors). The Ultradrive and Ultracurve now reside in a smaller rack. Ultradrive will be replaced when I find a reasonably priced XTA graphic....

This setup does quite well for my use, it will cope with anything from pub gigs to 5/6 band events in 1000 capacity venues and small outdoor stages. I can even lift it all by myself!

Well I don't know any other live production console with automation like J with these modules has.

With few reasonable exceptions, every button in the J is recallable and can be programmed into cues either by the console or by SAM software. That means preamp settings (on/off, polarity invert, +48v, pad etc individually for both preamps per channel), group routing, pan on/off between odd & even groups and between stereo auxes, each aux send on/off and pre/post button, eq on/off, hpf on/off, lpf on/off, insert on/off, mute on/off, vca/dca assign, vca controlled aux sends on/off.

Automation doesn't end with that. It also saves pot positions for each pot from gains through pan and aux sends to EQ's and filters. Every pot has a red led next to it that is lit when that pot is in wrong position related to current cue. When operator grabs that pot, one of two leds in lower end of module is lit, showing if the pot needs to be turned clockwise or anticlockwise to reach the saved setting, bit like with some radio tuners showing with two lights in which direction you need to tune to reach optimum frequency, quite neat system and imho as good as it can get, I would NOT want to have a Cadac with motorized pots, maintenance would be real nightmare (and the noise they would probably make).

Preamps, channel strip, group and matrix parts and fader modules are all equipped with individual isolate -switches if operator needs to make part of the console not follow cues, and use the console in more traditional analogue way.

Naturally motor fader positions are also saved into cues. Master modules also follow automation fully. Our console is equipped with 16 subgroups to 32 matrix sends -matrix that not only saves and recalls the routing but also the individual levels of each matrix point. Each bus (group & matrix) is equipped with Inject in with on/off switch and level pot, Bus out and insert send & return with on/off switch. Inject & bus out are XLRs and inserts are TRS. This makes this console ideal for repertoire theatre like ours, standard week on our stage consists of 6 two part days, mostly it is 5 rehearsals in day shift on weekdays with shows in the evening and on saturday we have two shows. There are quite a lot of exceptions but on same week we may do/rehearse four to six different shows, each with different requirements. If I have understood it right, this master module was pretty much custom made for out theatre's specifications. Most J's are loaded with unprogrammable matrix, which is fine (and more reliable...) for most musical theatres that may do same show for several years, but we have to be able to take shows like Wicked or Mary Poppins down and build some other show in few hours between 16-19 o'clock. That includes full stage set, lighting, wireless microphones and patching. No other analogue console would do.

SAM also makes it possible to do global updates for settings and setting groups, on one cue, range of cues or all cues, copy settings from channel strip to another etc... It really is quite a piece of engineering and really well thought out.

We bought ours from an install. It was functioning. Barely. We have taken it totally apart, cleaned everything and put it together. It is missing few components (burnt due a short with +48V rail) and other PSU needs some TLC. It will be available when it is finished. Full touring package with case and double PSUs.

I just remembered that we also have Soundcraft MH2 under rebuild. Everything else is for sale except the XR20 and J-Type.
