Hi,

Now that the fibreglass horns are available, how would i go about building a suitable cabinet for them?

Hi,

I think Biotech has made some.

Just make a trap cabinet and load the horns in from the front. The rear chamber for the 12's needs to be as small as you can make it.

So what you are really doing is attaching the 12" driver to the horn, then screwing the horn with driver on it into the cabinet. So the driver is front mounted. Use loats of gasket tape between driver and baffle and measure the distance from front of cabinet to the baffle good.

I see what you mean, so the tape is basically to seal the rear chamber, as you cant actually bolt the driver to the baffle.

Yes,

the horn with driver is only held in from the front. The rear of the cabinet is sealed. I expect someone will come up with a better solution, but for now it works.

I have done a quick drawing.

Perhaps one could rout out a ring, cut it in half, put it around the horn and insert t-nuts as to bolt through this from the rear chamber? Has anyone measured this horn? Certainly sounds very promising.

Or, put the baffle between the horn and driver, and use longer bolts to connect all three parts together. Although this would increase the horn length by 18mm.

No.

This would give a larger front chamber and stop the horn from working as well.

Put your thinking head on.

Except if one were to mount some sort of phasing plug to this baffle, though IIRC the horn comes with one right?

Yeah, its comes complete with phase plug...

no, it's me, not biotech who's just got some. though he has heard them, and i believe shares my views on their excellent sound ;)
i am finishing their cabinets tommorow, i think i might try mounting the driver as shown on the diagram with some slight changes. first drilling holes through the baffle at the driver mounting points, so i can use long bolts and bolt straight through the driver, through the baffle, and into the t-nuts inside the horn. i'll use gasket tape around the baffle edge and some between the horn mouth and front mounting edges, i'll also screw through there, to provide extra support and stop any vibrations
will let you all know how it works
