Reflex I'm guessing? They are fairly easy to design in WINISD.

You don't see many at all.As 12 inch reflex designs around are crap for serious bass.

The Eminence book has a 2x 12 inch bandpass which would give you more bass than a 2x 12 inch reflex which would be quite pathetic if used for pa.

The second last design on that page is the 2x 12 inch bandpass design.

I have one of the eminence 2 x 12 BPs... ok from a distance but port-noise-tastic up close!

yea james has one of the double 12" eminence bp cabs, untill the drivers got upgraded to a wicked one as their home. they produce a reasonable ammount of bass but the port noise is ludicrous

id say that 12" reflex cabs can work for pa, i reckon 2 decent long throw 12"s in a decently designed reflex cab would sound pretty sweet, possibly be a shade faster thana 15 or 18...

It might work if you used 2 very long excersion 12 inch drivers in a suitable tuned reflex cab. Eminence Lab 12 drivers come to mind.
 It could certainly go deep then but it still wouldn't be as loud as a horn, scoop or bandpass.
Or to achieve loud bass from a reflex it would have to be a huge enclosure for two 12 inch drivers.

About 30 years ago,FAL(no naughty comments please)manufactured a very compact mini scoop 12" plus J104 horn cabinet which used to stand about 30" high by 15" wide by 18" deep which we used to sell to mainly mobile DJs as they always used to sound amazing with an excellent punchy bass even from the relatively cheap Fane speaker within.
One of our regular DJ customers had bought four of these cabinets from us and was very pleased with them until the day his amp went DC on one side and fried one of his cabinets (luckily only using one pair on the night in question)---next day the blown cabinet duly arrived back in our shop for repair and the only reasonable 12" driver in stock was our own 12" ATC long coil bass driver with rubber surround(spare driver for some Hill bass bins). This was duly bolted in and run with some music through to test if it was OK. I wish that I had a camera at this point to capture the amazed looks on everyones faces as this little tiny cabinet proceeded to shake the shop to pieces.
Not sure if anyone has made any 12" scoops on here yet with todays hi spec drivers installed, but I would say that it would definitely be worth a try or even a 2x12" mini scoop would not be all that big to make.

Thanks for that----They are far too tall though---12" scoops should work out at less than 3ft tall if they are kept in the shrinking context of a 15" scoop.

I reckon those 12" scoops would sound nice and punchy used above a sub (eg 18" scoop) to play high bass up to say 160Hz..

cheers for the help folks, basically i now have 2 fane collossus 18xb cones in reflex cabs and 4 of the jbl 2206 so ill look into some of these designs and hopefully come up with a nice bass system i also have 2 jbl mpx1200s to run the bass. think id like to build 4 12'' scoops and 2 18" scoops
18" = 40hz - 80 hz maybe 100hz
12" = 100hz - 160hz
tops = 160hz upwards

Do you think my cones would be happy in this cab as theres an extra 300w rms coming through mine?

A 18" scoop ussually has a dip in the frequency respons around 70 - 80 Hz. A 12" downscaled scoop would probably have it's dip around 100-120 Hz.

With the crossover frequencies you propose you would have two dips in the frequency respons, if close enough even just one giant dip, right there in the kickarea. All used in a monostack would flatten those dips out.
You might just like it.
