Hey all,

Im new to the forum but i've been looking over a few old threads on here that were Very very helpfull! :)

as it is now i only give lighting for small house parties etc, and i currently have 2 soundlab hi-scan 2's and 2 abstract pro futurescan 3's i pulled out the loft that were my dads all running on sound to light but paired up. im also using a magnum 1200 i picked up from a bootsale for a fiver which im assuming needs a new pump (fog flows out slow and pump sounds terrible :P )

the reason im posting this is because im looking to buy some scanners which are better than the soundlabs im using now (the soundlabs and abstracts are only temporary hence why theyre on sound to light)

ive looked at buying 4 SCX 500'S however many people seem to be against them? so my question is what scanners would you recommend? im willing to pay £6-700 for a set of 4, preferable with rotating gobo's etc but scanners dont seem to be widely available on the bay, and when they pop up they seem to be very over priced? the only decent things ive seen on the bay were these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-Martin-Mania-SCX-500-Scanners-/110869370312?pt=UK_ConElec_LightingLEDsStrobes_RL&hash=item19d05455c8

Please help? :) All replies are appreciated and im thankfull for all your heklp in advance :)

Thanks!

Abstract VRX Rotating units, a set of 4 in very good nick would be in your budget.
Also look at second hand Robe Club and Bar series but these don't come up very often.

The scx scanners have great optics and are very very bright units for 150 halogen!

The new 60w LED scans look good, as bright if not brighter than 150w discharge lights. small and light weight and you wont have to worry about the lamps for a while.

I think they're 'light engines' these days

hey all :)

thanks for all the replies :) i've been looking at some EVL pro scan 150's that seem to be quite cheap (15 ea) and have everything i want! (although not LED) and i thinkthese may be the way to go for me unless there are any scanners that are cheaper/better? :D

also, with my Abstract Pro Futurescan 3's, i want to get the 2 to run master/slave on sound to light mode? is it possible? they have a weird 6 dip switch board though,

I assume with your futurescans that they respond sound to light with all dipswitches turned off.
So use head 1 with no dipswitches on.
Head 2 needs to have dipswitch 1 turned on.
Head 3 has dipswitch 2 on.
Head 4 has dips 1 and 2 on and so on.

Thats how my colour changer ced's work anyway

Just got my new lamps through and tried the settings you suggested with no luck, they just set to default and mirrors reset (they dont reset when sound to light) and nothing happens when i make noise near the mic, not sure if i need a terminator? they are quite old (atleast 5-10 years old)

Dont know about abstract, but my acme panthers and jags need the following to run master slave
master - dip 1 on
slave    - dip 1 + 2 on

all dips off sounds like you are telling the light to be off, have you tried downloading the manual? the settings will be in there. It will also tell you if/how to set the slave to work inverted to the master to give a better show.

hmmm its a bit of a mystery then.

My colour changers will respond to sound even with all dips off and the way i suggested should work with the futurescans too as i have just had a quick look at the manual.

I suppose the way to solve it is to keep trying all different combinations.
If you get one light to respond to sound, add another in the chain and try to get that to respond by flicking dips, then try a 3rd etc....

Let us know if you sort it!
