Going on the back of what Tony ASS said about preferring routed handles over metal ones I thought it'd be good to show off your routed handles :)

I for one am very interested in the various sizes and styles.  It's something I considered in the past but always found it easier to just bung in a bar handle than faff about with back boxes etc.

It also has a miserable look to it. It's obviously not happy.

Here i the handles I did for my cubo. When I was rounding them off I had the bit a touch deep and it left a pattern but I really liked it so kept it in :)

See now I've thought of doing that instead of bar handles but never really settled on it. I guess I didn't trust the birch to do as good of a job as the proper handles, especially in terms of durability long term. What do you think?

Sam, it all depends on the box. If it is uber heavy then i suppose there is a room to think if it will be strong enough.
Anyhow, if the wood is good quality and you leave enough "meat" between the handles it should be quite fine.
The BA218 is 88kg and the handles are just fine as you see them.

Made this the orther day a template out of a beer handle , yu know the ones that comes with the box of beer, ghetto i know but worked well n nice shapeLOL so there a tip for ya :-)

so how are you boys getting the template perfect? i used a Jig-Saw then a bit of sanding/file to try and get it perfect...ovisly once yu got a perfect/sharp template you are all good , as you know the cut out will be perfect..exact replica

got sick of buying handles and wanted to give it a go got myself the few tools-bits yu need, so heres my effort on an old piezo box got about...just to give it a try think the round-over a bit was too big a radius?

just need to make a proper one now out of ply...
