Can guarantee, when certain people hear certain things, they're heads gonna be all up in the speaker cabs, and taking HD photos of stacks & racks, for investigation later.

Well! We all know that these kind of events whether its a proper sound clash or sound check or anywhere there is 3 or 4 sounds systems playin it's more of a sound man thing! So female turnout will be at a minimum, but we are hoping that due to to playing styles of the 4 sounds in this event it will attract a few more ladies

These events have always been predominately Black which of course is natural, but with so many Male attendenties, shades of pink start to show through. Although I have to say the Dubstep scene looks like that as well.

In all things there needs to be balance. LOL

As long as I "also" here some Old time R&C, and some digital dubs I'm happy.

There's plenty of excellent Roots & Dub productions out there that women like, such as Gussie P productions. Embarrassed

Lots of roots dances have a very large female attendance, the event in question is a sunday soundcheck so that could be one reason why female attendance is low, also could be down to promoting, or the area that its in doesn't have a big female following, any of those or all of those could be the reason. changing the music doesnt solve the problem of gettin women to the event for the sessions that have sounds who play dub music.

Date Posted: 22 December 2012 at 8:55pm
Well I can guarantee you all, that there will be a variety of genres covered on the 6th jan. we can't please everyone at the same time obviously but between the 4 sounds involved everyone will hear something they like at some point, Including the ladies

starts 5pm - midnight (officially)

No real difference in time apart from this one being billed to finish an hour later than usual as it is still a Sunday and most peeps working the following day, not forgetting the sounds work and effort before and after the session.

This dance is definitely aiming more on entertainment but you know how it is, anywhere 2 or more sounds string up there will be an element of competition
We can't help it, but I know it will all be in good fun.

4 days to go!

Nuff talk on the streets regarding Qualitex and Subs.
If Qualitex's thunder ridge stack is anything to go by, then they should be sounding on point.

Can't forget Ebony Showcase working with their new stack.

Easy Hawkeye - soun' and cd box always at the ready!!

Lickle young Motion54 are coming to learn from the wiser ones on Sunday.

Spread the word people as we are kicking 2013 with a bang!!!! (hopefully not from any amps or drivers)

For all those who didn't get a chance to hear the PD1852s last Friday in Birmingham, this will be an opportunity for you to hear them again.

And whatever it was that caused the ones on HBs set to stop working on Friday (reasons not clear as yet) I can assure you the 1852s are proppa.
I've had them on test now for a few months in my minis and the .44 full scoops and results have been astounding! But don't just take my word on it! Come hear for yourself on Sunday!

It would be great if he had a set of proper mics that can take the SPL, eg not any of the usual video man's shotgun condenser mics; Sennheiser MD421's should be available cheaply from any rental house, which are good to at least 140dB (if your recorder can take their output!) This would produce a video that really represents the differences between the rigs. Seems like there's a lot of interest in this event so it would be worth sorting out.

Have you viewed the YouTube link above for a dance he recorded for us back in June?
I think the audio quality is pretty good.
What do you think?

Posted By: studio45
Date Posted: 04 January 2013 at 4:04pm
It's better than average I must admit. That bit of distortion I can hear must be the soundsystems then ShockedLOL
MD421 also offers excellent bass pick-up in addition to high SPL capability. Whereas a lot of camera mics are normally operated with the on-mic bass-cut switch enabled, so rolling off their output below 80Hz or thereabouts. This enables the camera to record higher level audio by avoiding large bass signals reaching the recorder, and is completely fine for most camerawork applications where the only things below 80Hz are wind noise and traffic rumble. I don't know if he has it set so for that video, i've only got laptop speakers here....
Seriously, I would look into it, you should be able to hire a pair with cables and stands for about £50. It will probably even fit into his big furry windshield, if he uses one. Electrovoice RE20 would also work.

Finely reach mi yard after driving down to this as it was billed as a DANCE not a SOUNDCHECK & after the big big session inna B,ham all i caan say is this event was a bit of a joke ting still as the sounds never come fi entertain but flex dem muscle. Not gonna say too much bout the sounds dem as some tek offence on this forum wat i wiil say is at times the sounds was playing way too loud with no real quality behind dem,as for the pd1852 if i had a sound that used the pd1850 i wouldnt be inna no rush to sell dem as no real sub/low notes was comming from it but that could be down to a number of different things, loud wid spl yes in my opinion the sound useing the ass boxes had a much deeper bass/sub wid an overall nicer tone respek to promoter same way for trying a ting.

I was pleased to see such a big turn out for the beginning of the year big up the promotion team Motion 54.

My visit last night was very brief as i was on call but i got to hear each sound and they all had their -/ + points. I dont come from a roots background and i am new to that style of music. So i was more listening to the qulaity of each system, clarity of microphone and presentation and who i would book in terms as a result from the sound system sound off.

All systems presentation were tidy. I would book each sound depending on venue and clientele. Ebony Showcase and motion 54 systems are not in your face, smart appearance and good quality. Qualitex has the daddy appearence. Money well spent and attention to detail, Hawkeye kept it real with the classic older style look but still tidy. Only positive comments/ criticism depending on how you take it.

clearest mic i would say Hawkeye
best controlled bass- Qualitex
best sounding tonal bass -Motion 54
best Controlled sound- Ebony (one track bass sounded over driven but you quickly brought that under control)
best overall tone- Qualitex (although some were a bit unpleasant to the ear due to excessive level)

All in all i had a good time saw a few faces i havent seen for a while. I would like to hear Ebony with more tops, Motion 54 with their new amp configurations sorted out as i have heard them sounding better in mid and high section. Qualitex very nice sounding new system,, would really have like to hear some more lower notes produced from lev& 52 scoop combo. Hawkeye playing within his linits and not pushing system to hard.
Also a little less effects on mics. Get them sounding clear first then add effects but as i said in the beginning i am new to this particular style of music so maybe i shouldnt look at things from this angle.

Also is it mainly a roots event?? I would really like sounds to show case other styles off music. There are so much more out there.

Respect and peace out

Marvin

Cheers and Happy New Year to all

Great start to the new year keep up the good work and giving sounds chance to showcase thier talent.

+1 to all of that.

Big-up to Motion 54, and all crews who took part, and crowd who attended.

Would say the final digital dub Kutty played gave better "preview" of what Lev .44 will do with PD1852 (And '50/'51), next time, when combo is tuned to play warmer, rounder, deeper.

Watch this space for next encounter. Wink

Very good session, I had a great time, well done all involved  Clap

Good soundsystems doing a great job, Quailtex the heaviest out of the bunch, not playing deep, but heavy enough Thumbs Up

Hawkeye for me had the balance, mids abit loud @ times but well balance system Thumbs Up

Motion 54 & Ebony Showcase good sets & good banter Thumbs Up

I must say to have a system @ that level you've got have dubplates to showcase what your systems is about guys.............

Great session anyway.

We would like to give thanks to the opportunity to play alongside Qualitex, Hawkeye and Ebony!
A lively and fun night for us.
We enjoyed every minute.
We hope to put on more like this for the future.

There's been a lot of bad press about the ASS RX18DC scoop and 1851 driver since their release.
I hope we put a few to rest!!!!
Not saying our set was nowhere near perfect - a few things to iron out here and there but we are happy with it.

We loved the majority of the selection throughout the night from all sounds including the killer Viceroy Special, Qualitex did fling on us!!!!
Biggup Ebony for playing the Soul tune (I assume) for the female attendees!!

Nuff respeck to Clive the cameraman.
Top quality DVD to be released shortly.

A big thanks to all who attended this event. I hope you got your money's worth!!!

A special shout to Mode3, Arthur and Ebony because without their passion and creative minds towards soundsystem culture, there wouldn't be no Soundsystem Sound-Off!!!
Blessed!!!

Thanks to Motion 54 for giving us the opportunity to play with the big guns Qualitex & Hawkeye. Was a good learning experience. Not really our style of playing but was enjoyable all the same. As for the Omar tune Mr Levyte... I can give you his number to call and he can send you the exact lyrics for clarification..... Big up Motion 54 more for 2013 please

Wow!! Just about recovered from Sunday.
Big Up to Motion 54 Crew for arranging this session. very enjoyable night for real! Nuff respect to Hawkeye, Motion and Ebony for not putting us back on the country busLOL

No really, big respek to all the sounds for making this one of, if not. The Best! event so far at GP.ClapClapClapClap. Wicked way to start of 2013.

I know we can't please everyone all the time and that the style of music played mostly was not to everyones taste but I'm sure you were entertained at some point by one of the sounds even if it was only one tuneWink, but from the response of the crowd and comments after, the larger part of the crowd were happy. We know there will always be a disgruntled one or two, but I'm sure Motion will make sure all those get covered over the coming months Thumbs Up

Respect also to all that gave us feedback and comments, we take it all as positive as there is always room for improvement.

Blessings to all SP crew, and all soundmen in attendance, too much to mention.ClapClapClapClapClapClapClap

Hope to see you all at Ligwa's 50th on the 27th and then again on the 3rd Feb and 3rd March.

Ps. anyone got a room for rent in north london? All this travelling is killing meOuch
