is there a led bulb bright enough to replace the halogen 24v 250w mr16 as cold storage of lights has been making my bulbs explode. just bits of light left inside acme falcons even after sitting in warm for a few hours. |

sounds more like condensation in the transformer, bring them in for a week in the airing cupboard.
my jags and panthers are fine after an hour or so at room temp, and they live in the cold in the winter.
Im trying to rig up an LED set up to replace the standard lamp, but doing so means having to add to the optics. still playing at the mo but an old martin dj sweeper will be sorted in a week or so. looking forward to real world test, but it is only 100w lamp as standard so with a whiter led it is achievable. ------------- To much power? NEVER. |

[/QUOTE Sorry, a damp transformer wont have any bearing on the lamp whatsoever - if it does not take the RCD out, then no bother. Not a lot to go wrong with a transformer, and unless it is swimming in water, it will be just fine. What make laps are you using? If you are using reputable brands ( osram / GE / Philips), then there should be no problem if the unit has been given sufficient time to reach room temperature, and the unit id dry inside. you could check the lamp voltage, A1 series lamps are sensitive to overvoltage. Also check your lamp holder - dirty lamp holder contacts quickly cause arcing and heating, which quickly kills the lamp. If the pins on the bad lamps are anything other than clean, there is your problem. On the LED front, yes there are chips out there which are bright enough to replace a A1/259 lamp, but you would also need to build some optics to collect the light and collimate it in a similar way to the reflector found on the A1/259. With out this, you wont focus correctly on the optical gate ( where the gobo / colour wheel meets the light beam), and the result will be dull and likely unfocused. probably not a financially viable option, now that there are some reasonable led sourced dj effects with "gobo" optics coming through. ------------- “The fact is this is about identifying what we do best and finding more ways of doing less of it better” |

The lamps you want are the philips broadway ones, they last the best and give a nice white light. I was using osram A1/259's but they were blowing after only 1 or 2 gigs. I've never ever had any brand of A1/259's explode though? and I've got 14 light units that use them. I'd check the voltage at the lamp holder and make sure theres not an unusually high voltage there. ------------- 100% Earth Moving Bass |

cheers guys for advice. i will admit the last 3 bulbs was bought from maplins, an not good make. an none of the phillips 1s have exploded. i had a good look around for a led replacment an seems it would be cheaper for me to go buy some led lights ready made than convert the 1s i have. |

Damp affecting the output side of the transformer wont touch an rcd.
LED scans and gobo flowers are the easier and currently cheaper option. My sweeper project was only viable due to the right sort of odds and ends I had kicking around, otherwise I would of been looking at around £40-45 a side plus my time for making up and fitting. ------------- To much power?
