Hey guys,

It's been a while since i've posted but i have a question.  I asked a carpenter to build me 2 186 horns so i can get a first hand experience with them.  Upon receiving the cabs, i notice they didn't put in the piece that's slanted just after the board that has the driver.  It's just behind the piece you would see infront to the top.

My question is, what effects will this have on the performance of the cab.

thanks in advance for any response...

ouch yes, it help deflect the signal down the horn path, i heard some 186 about 2 years ago where this was not put in and they sounded very muddy in the higher frequencys....

ok the best way to fix this would be to pop in the missing piece with loads of glue, but you wont get it in there..... what i would do is cut the missing piece into 3.... glue the first piece in when it is dry glue the second and so on, you should be able to fit the cut sections through the baffle cut out, its a bugger to do, but well worth it.....

should of said, lay the box on its front, this will help the bit from moving untill it drys..... use a ton of glue....you may find you wont get a screw driver in there to screw it in place....

3 pieces 200mm wide

Thanks.  Don't think i will have to go through that much trouble to get the piece in though as i asked the shop to make the top removable instead of the baffle cut out.  I will be attempting this fix tomorrow.

Thanks again

this bit in Red? its to keep the natural shape of expansion of the horn, will be Interesting if it does make a massive difference.

i heard 2 stacks of 4, 2 differant crews doing a link up, one of the sounds (forget name now) did not put this piece in, and there was a noticable differance in the higher frequancys.... both stacks were being run from the same make of amps, in mono..... cant remember what amp or lms was being used, lms may of been an xta.......

in principle you are correct its to help keep the shape of the horn, in the case of the 186, by taking this piece out, it would give the horn negative expansion..... in some cabs a bit of negative expansion is not a bad thing, but in a cab like this ive allways seen it as a bad thing.......

if you paid someone to build them, and gave them the plans, take it back to them and let them sort it out.... they failed to build to the specifications!!
