Subject: Plan for Horn Tweeters ?
Date Posted: 13 October 2013 at 12:50am
Hi,

I just bought 2 Electro Voice horn tweeters for a very nice price I immediately bought them and at home tested them out, en they function very good very good sound.

Now I was thinking I want them on top of my rigs (got 2 rigs now of each 1 bassbin (folded horn), 1 mid/high 2-way top, and 2 mid-tops)

I was wondering if any of you know a plan for building these "small block" boxes with the horns ?

The horns that will be used are : Electro Voice Horn 8 HD (With corresponding drivers)
Here is a picture I made of it

Hope you guys can help me out, I think you will as always. :)

EV 8HD's are midrange horns. Usually operating from 800 to 3600. At least in my EV Eliminator 2's.

Yes, On it's label it says crossover @ 800hz cutoff 600hz
Are these not good to use on top ? They make a very good quality sound and high spl
Do you suggest something else to do with them ?

Use them in conjunction with something that goes all the way to the top of your desired range. Probably a smaller horn and driver which reaches at least 16kHz, ideally 20 khz.  Usually horns that cutoff low like that get pretty inefficient off axis for the treble. These can range widely in expense. Try to come close to matching the nominal dispersion pattern of this horn.

Those look like the EV T-25 midrange drivers.

It's a 30W phenolic driver, and will run from 800hz~3.6Khz on the 8HD horn.

That horn rings like a bell, so be sure and clamp it tight to a chunk of wood, and maybe use some rope-caulk as well on the back side.

No diaphragms are available, so use if for hi-fi.

I would sell them on eBay, somebody will buy them for the diaphragms. A clean pair (which yours are not) will bring $500 and up.

Sell the horns too. They are to be used with the long axis vertical. Not well suited for PA.

To get back to your question of a plan, whatever you end up using them for, if it's a separate box, you won't need a plan, all you need is a box with the horn cutout in the front.

Thanks for all answers, The model of the drivers is not written on it, so I didn't know exactly.
Like how I understand the best thing to do is sell them and then buy something back from the money that will fit my needs ? Any of you know what price is fair to sell these for in this condition ? the functionality is perfect.

Ok, thanks for the info. I didn't thought they are worth that much money, indeed it's true I can buy something else that will sweet my needs. And I Can use a set subs or mid-woofers better than this because I really thought these were for the high frequencies used.
Thanks for the info guys, my question is answered.
