Pre67 I have my fingers crossed because I want to build 12' Eminence Scoops for low mid to mid range (90-990 Hz) if possible loaded with a pro 12" driver. Please let us know the results, thanks!Wink

T-Bone, go for it! I've got 12" scoop fitted with RCF L12P520, on top goes RCF N300 driver, sounds sweet and the 12" goes down to 65 Hz nicely.
Originally built for home hi-fi, I got it from the builder and use it for live gigs.

Fair play for having a crack. You can't go too wrong really! It will make some noise regardless.

My toy sized 10 inch scoops do not sound right over 300 at all. They were roughly based on the eminence as well, and they are fun for midbass but kinda lousy for mid. Around 320 there is an annoying honk that jumps right of the page in freq response. I cut them off at 200 or lower with 12db/oct and then squash above 300 with a parametric eq shelf. Not saying it can't be done, just that I have not done it. For midrange, I don't see a scoop being the right pick.

I am planning on using a new Faital Pro 12FH530 it's got weather protected cone and demodulating ring, low Le, low Qts, Bl 19, and cone is medium weight for horn loading OR I can use the industry standard JBL 2206? Any thoughts I also get great pricing on Faital Pro, it's good to know people from the industry.Wink

Pre67 you can try a 12" tapped horn from DIY audio or Marc's site he's got a nice 12" tapped horn. Can go nice to 120 Hz.

That Faital driver looks like a driver that would be quite at home in a mid or midbass horn but then Fs says that if you design a scoop well I expect you would get a decent response down to 60Hz ish. Would be worth chucking the parameters into a simulator and seeing what happens.

Unfortunately I do not know or have access to a simulation program if someone in the forum can try please let us know. Thanks!Question

Akabak is free for personal use, horn response is free too. Loads of tutorials round the web! Draw a plan and have a go.

Cool have u got a plan for the tapped horn ? Might make one for the sub box maybe or just another scoop
Had a bit of a shit day to day I thought I would fill the empty space with expanding foam.... So u can probably guess where this is going lol so have to re do the scoops :/ tomorrow. But on a up side I woodcut up and started geting the internal parts glued and screw got all the angle spot on so happy with that

Sorry to hear that. Expanding foam does work, but I find it best to fill a little at a time and make sure that it has somewhere to go when it runs out of room.  I do it usually with one side panel off, but I have never done the curve piece of the scoop. I just did it as a straight angled panel.

Trying to upload pics but dosent seem to be working but ones the do al get them up nothing special just a pic of a smashed up box with a mess of expanding foam and a pic of a start on the angled internal bits

Expanding foam need I say more lol

Haha messy, I'd always fill with one side off but I guess that isn't very helpful advice right now. Don't stress if the foam goes everywhere, just wait for it to dry. When wet it is horrible stuff, when dry it can be shaped, cut and sanded. you could even fill the surface of it with filler and then sand down for a smooth profile using just the foam! Not tried that myself though.

Do you have a 25mm flat wood boring bit? Very handy for busting large holes into things, mounting Speakons etc. and just the job for creating holes for injection of expanding foam, that are big enough to let it come back out if it wants to.
I would have removed the bulging panel with a jigsaw me, but I suppose your method was better for stress relief LOL

Looking good, certainly a living room fixture. Try REW for measurements as a starter perhaps, it is free. But if you have a decent mic then any software that calculates an accurate enough FFT based on the input (play pink or white noise for all frequencies) will show you what is coming out of them.

Do away with the rear baffle if you're only using them for hifi. And move the rear baffle up further

Then fill the rear chamber loosely with Dacron

Lovely job, nice crisp finish too, very smart.

Cant help but wonder what they would sound like with a more up-market vintage driver,as opposed to your vintage Celestion twin-cone,im betting the ATC PA75 long-coil 12" would be a great one.
