Can 4 10's like the Eminence HL-10a (I think) work in place of the expensive 21" PD?

No reason why it would be impossible to do, but the scoop would need to be designed specifically round the chosen drivers, rather than plonking them into an existing 21" design. I wonder if you will find 10" drivers with suitable enough spec to match a 21" in a scoop... If you could though you would have the potential for some serious power handling (say 4x500w 10"..2000w per cab) and the cab would look wicked for sure! Possible disavdvantage is that if one cone blew, the cab would not function properly, would probably weigh more than a single 21", and might not work out any cheaper..(they're going to need to be decent, tough 10"ers)

I'm not sure how you go about calculating for multiple drivers in a scoop, don't know if some of the T/S figures sum together, or if you just take the T/S of the individual driver but calculate with the combined driver area.. ??

its an interesting concept alright.
surley it would require a re arangement of the baffles inside the scoop to accomodate the 10" drivers, ie: preusmably the baffle thats imediatley behind the driver would have to be moved forward to create the right chamber size for the smaller drivers?
like you say Jeth i wouldnt know how you go about calculating multiple drivers for one horn, perhaps that question is worth posting in the advanced section?

Dan.

would think that weight of those drivers and cost would be more than a top quality 21 inch driver?  No reason why you could not make it work though.  There are some big high power 21 inch drivers out there so why not look into them first? Drivers like the Assin have huge xmax and are cheap but not sure if you could make the values work in this kind of design.

The Assassin 10 is the first 10 inch subwoofer offered from Ascendant Audio. Sharing the same motor as the other Assassin subwoofers, it has plenty of motor strength to pound out the lows and fit into small enclosures.

It features excellent sensitivity, which means you can achieve more output with less power needed. Like the other Assassin subwoofers, it works in nearly any application with ease. It is also a natural for multi-driver car audio enclosures.

The sound  quality of the Assassin 10 is incredible. Combine that with its ability to play very loud and clean, and you begin to see that this driver is tough to beat. At its price, few drivers even come close.

Eminence HL-10 I decide on.

Has a Qts of 0.29, fs 44hz,  xmax 11.1mm, 2.5 inch vc, 300w rms, 4 ohm. Sens is 88db at 1w/1m though. But 4 in one box of them will make it, 97db at 1w/1m sens.38hz-125hz freq res.Xmech 22mm.BL 18.3 tm.
And wire them in series/parallel arrangement.

Yes, but what is the Single/Combined Sd of 4x HL10's?

I'm sick of hearing cabs with multiple smaller units (even 2x15 reflex) that sound nice and deep up close, even some floor shaking, but don't move enough air between 60-100 to "kick" you in the chest.
