Hey,

I was wondering what a suitable 300/400w driver would be for a HD15? This is going to be my first ever speaker.

I have ordered a TA2400 MK-X (x2 1200w/4ohms) and as the clipping system isn't great on it apparently I don't want to blow my drivers with DJs going in the red etc. so I want 300/400w drivers to allow enough headroom (1.5x/2x).

I want to go with the Kappa 15LF but it's 600w and I want to daisy chain 2 HD15's together and also allow enough headroom.

Is there a good driver for a HD15 that is 300 or 400w?

Cheers

Kappa 15LF might say 600W on it but eminence are a bit optamistic with that number,  300-400W is about right for the kappa 15LF, they will run fine and you wont be over stressing the amp or the drivers.  PD154 will take a bit more power and go a bit louder if you like, but they dont sound as good as the kappa though (IMO).    I would look at the fane offerings also, the sov 15-600LF and the sov pro 15-600LF are both fairly similar to the kappa, ive not tested them though.

You don't have to use an amp that is more powerful than your drivers even though it is good practice, as long as the amp is kept out of clip you'll be fine (if you've got djs playing on the system then you WILL need a good limiter!). For instance, my HDs were loaded with Eminence Omegas which are rated at 800w but the amps I was powering them with was feeding them 600w, I ran the system like this for years without a single issue.

Great info thanks everyone.

I'm getting a Behringer UltraDrive Pro DCX2496LE. Does that have a good limiter on it?

Don't know about the 'LE' version but I've always found the limiters on the normal Ultradrive very good.

limiters on the LE are the same as the normal version
