this is more for Mikey , building a cab with you 8" horn and the 12" horn would it be a waste of money ,or should one go for it ? cause nuff designs that have or are still good are based on 8", 10", 12" meyer MSL3 OHM HD-MH Stasys 3 mk2
and many more !

Sometimes, simple is best.
Expensive 12", on phase "bunged", long wide flare, with expensive Neo 2", will remove need for 8"/1" drivers.
Know someone in UK with just this setup, and shames many more complex systems.
BSS LMS & Quality amps, of course.

so you mean using like the meyer horn and redoing the bong to match the 12" being used would just do the job with a go 2"neo,

Actually, mean something like the Porn Horns.
Learnt from hearing different systems, when you spend over certain budget on 2" drivers, they both go low and high.

Msl3 uses a 4''inch jbl comp which goes down to 1050hz if used with its original crossovers. So the two 12'' with the huge plug can meet each other quite easy. Although nowadays it is quite common to use 8'' drivers to cover the gap between 12'' or 15'' and 1''-1.4'' comps, I doubt if meyer can achieve that kind of spl with low wattage drivers and old amps by choosing inserting a small cone driver between mid and hi.Maybe two 8'' drivers in horn with another phase plug could do the job but as mentioned above simple sometimes is much better. I find the coax comps solution to be the best way.

Here you go...
Fiber glass phase bunged 12" horn, with matching driver. Perfectly matched, expensive Comp & comp horn. Quality LMS programmed to perfectly align & eq above. Pro, quality amps, mixer.
Simple really.
Rest of us mortals have to make do with MT121 & Berry DCX.

Sometimes ι wonder if it is worth all the extra money to reach the same outcome if were using simple ways from the start to achieve things that already work fine all these years.
Of course it is so much easier when you have the money to try new stuff.

Mykey, whats approx freq range of your 12" horns, & with which suggested drivers ?
E.g., can they work with PD123, PD121, Eminence Kappa Pro, Fane 12MB?

I use BMS 12n610 + BMS 4550's although I'm going to upgrade the 1" to BMS coaxial.

i want to either use BMS4550 or 4590 aswell, could you comment a little bit on why you are changing? ;)

BMS 4590s are the dogs danglies. 2" easily reaches down to meet 12" cone and 1" gives you all the chio and sparkle you'd ever need.

I've heard the 4590, good, and maybe enough sparkle for a PA rig, but there's something special about the sound of a 5 way system, with 2446/DE85/CP750 and 4x CP25s above each 2".

so does the BMS 4550 ;) im aware of both drivers and their pro and cons, i just wanted to ask boots-hifi if he thinks the extra headroom /spl is worth the money , or why he is changing in general ;)
18sound HD1480 would be the compromise between them both...

I'll let Boots give his own opinion but we've both heard both sets of comps together and the 4590s are imo head and shoulders above the 4550.

BMS 4550 will run down to 800hz, however this is a traid off as it requires to my ears and others involved in my sound system allot of EQ up the top end and fails to reproduce that magical chipping hence the introduction of CP25's etc to the 2" that Lev mentions. The 4590 has the best of both worlds and more, if you have the money invest in a pair otherwise your end up doing what I'm doing and buying twice to upgrade....I may have a few 4550's for sale soon though
