Hi peeps,

Here's some pics of the our new system. Enjoy!

Sitting on the dock of the bay.....

Close up on the Tractrix Mids.

New curvy bracing.

More details of the new bracing.

Hatches on the Terrhorns.

The new PD.185N01 (labelled 1850X above) sitting next to an early 1850, when we were about to test the drivers for the first time. Forgot to get pics of the tops of the cones, but they use triple roll suspensions. Cones are stronger/stiffer, the Neo magnets have been designed to give a completely linear magnetic field through the voicecoils travel in the gap, and Xlim is up by 12mm over the 1850, Xmax by a smaller margin.

New driver in the cab. Check out the massive flared vent in the pole piece, and eight others around it on the magnet cover. The basket also has 6 large vents. Should stay reasonably cool as it is, but we're having thoughts about making CNC'd alloy hatches and some sort of cooling system...

Six of the new Terra's nearing completion in Al's workshop.

Cheers,

Gramps.

Thanks for the compliments guys Smile

All of the rigs were on strict limits that day, with the fun police set on maximum alert because of nearby residential areas, so we still had quite a bit of headroom to play with, and had to use some pretty judicious eqing on the bass to keep them happy - I'm surprised it still sounded so good TBH!

We had wanted to set up as a mono-stack, as we were doing the Reggae stage, and experience just what 8 Terra's are capable of doing together as a ground stack for the first time, but the on-site sound crew wouldn't let us, for some strange reason....

Cheers,

Gramps.

Had a photo shoot with the system a few days ago, to get something decent to put on our company website/promo material. Apart from a few issues getting the boxes lined up because the floor was so uneven, it came out looking pretty sweet Smile

seems we have a mutual friend someone showed me photo of these last week or at the weekend when they came to collect some kit. Asked me had I heard of "Reggae Roast" and showed me the kit
very nice I thought
i was also very mistrusting of Nd until recently we now have some Nd drivers and I think they are very good.
seems to be the way forward though was put off by the early attempts by JBL back in the 90's. I am now more willing to use Nd for everything

Say what you want, but it's a bit of a silly bold statement, surprised it wasn't followed with you banging on about the s21 thing of yours LOL

When set up correctly there's not much can beat it, when you heard it, as was mentioned before, there wasn't any time for the guys to do tests after the cabs were built and it's first gig with new amps and an odd LMS.

And yet under the circumstances it still sounded better than most systems.

What are standards of "sounding good" or "better than most systems"?

I think theres no such thing as perfect sound system and thats what kid creole is possibly tryin to say?

Theres nothing perfect about nothing and everything is perfect, thats the paradox here!

At the end of the day I personally dont care if the sound system is good or not if the music it is playing is some meningless crap without message. Hearing some bullcrap from the best sound system in the world doesnt make the crap music with bullcrap message any betterLOL

The system looks nice!Thumbs Up

I think many systems, including my own, can sound anywhere from great to shocking depending on the music and how they're engineered, and that varies from gig to gig, and is often judged by what each listener is looking for at the time.

I heard this rig at Tokyo Dub festival, alongside many others, and I have to say it just sounded very pleasing, deep lows, clear crisp loud mid and top without being at all painful, in fact the very sound of it made you want to stay and enjoy the music, and enjoyment of the music is what it's all about so I was pretty impressed.

To anyone that didn't enjoy it when they heard it - I'd urge you to listen again sometime before you decide not to like it as it certainly can sound great, especially on the music it was built to play!

..um really? i never said i was the messiah!

RCF TT+ i'd guess should be a good system, but it's an inconspicuous rectangular black box for flying and how much more does it cost?

Tops sound sweet when the LMS is set up correctly and not overdriven, i didn't like the sound at the launch event for that reason either, but it's easily remedied, and as mentioned before, the guys had no time to run tests with the new amps and odd LMS.

Kick and impulse response is actually very good, but again XO points needed adjusting, but there wasn't time.

It seems funny how we covered all this in the last thread with Mykey, but now it's gospel? Ouch

I agree that any sound system can sound like shite. I have a regular gig here that i simply hate how my sound system sounds. Some very dirty tekno production combined with turntables that have seen new needles like a decade ago. But the promoters and DJs  just love the sound. :-)

guess thats what counts most, punters and promoters, in other words the guys who pay for your food on the table need to be happy, not some geeks, like us, that almost always could find something they dont like about "your" sound.
..You could never please everyone unfortunately :)
