Got given 4 Fane 18XB's yesterday :)

Whats the general consensus on the best cab design for these drivers? Ideally id like it to cover 35-120hz and be modular (1 x 18" per cab) so its easier to move and store.

They will be mainly used indoors for recorded music events (bass heavy music) but i would need to use them outside too. Will Reflex cut it? Im worried about the throw?

Im thinking a mini scoop of some sort? This looks interesting and simple to build

Simplest and most versatile would be reflex such as the old B&C Sub18 design (well proven combo).

All cab designs are at a disadvantage outside compared with indoors.  I'm sure someone will comment about 'throw' being a common misconception.

I've four XBs in some slightly modded B&C cabs.
They sound lovely, simple build and to easy to move about too.

On one hand i want to go for something simple and easy to build but on the other im thinking i might try designing a folded horn for them LOL

these drivers are not suitable for folded horns. Ported enclosures and scoops are what they are designed for.

Wacko

fane 18b not suitable for horns?
afaik one of the tightest sounding classic horn drivers, no?

bphs ala usb, es18 aswell as proper horns like invaders for example should sound well defined loaded with these drivers..
Remember many on here missing them after they got obsolete few years ago.

18xb is much softer by all accounts, reflex or well looked after scoops seem suitable.

I think that was the point lgosdset was making.  The 18XB isn't suitable for horns but the 18B is.
