I'm sorry for not being clear, Italian as a language doesn't really make a difference between mdf "board" and wood ply. Excuse my ignorance

Its all 18mm MDF. Just strips around the front to give the chunky look. Some bracing and baffles are made from 2 18mm panels laminated to form 36mm pieces. The scoops are very easy to move around on your own with the wheels.
Thanks for all the kind words........ more pics to come

I see you put clamps on all your scoop drivers ,do you prefer them just for easier swapping or? Got some drivers to swap try out with different patterns so just wondering, the clamps dont feel they can go tight enough.Correct me if im wrong.

Those scoops we're originally t-nutted for Fane (outside bolt circle).
It was easier and made more sense to use clamps with the existing holes when swapping to Oberton drivers, rather than fill those holes and drill new ones.
The drivers are fixed in as tight as they would be using the bolt holes. I had to fit a rear gasket on the drivers because they don't come with any.

On page 1 there were some talks about magic paint and turning wood into other wood...
This doesn't really tie in to the crisp clean edges and black textured paint shown normally, but here is a little experiment I done. Just thought I'd share.
This is a bit of standard MDF, made to look like the finish found on old vintage reggae sound system boxes. The damage was inflicted purposely.

A lot of people care. Cabs have to be solid, and mdf is much easier to work with. E.G. Sanding, routing, cutting. plus you don't have to sell straight after purchasing. http://forum.speakerplans.com/topic91757_post921996.html#921996" rel="nofollow - http://forum.speakerplans.com/topic91757_post921996.html#921996

The pic is MDF? How have you achieved this result if I may ask? Especially the woodgrain? It's beautiful

So what MDF is not a solid build? course it is man come on, there nuff cabs made out of MDF over the years and still going strong,
know of MDF cabs being used for dancehall, parks , carnivals, outdoor fare's being moved all over europe to play sessions and still going man
just need a little care , sick off saying it , only replying to peeps echos on here keep on about it too...
Great works Venny , bring a little diff to the table , im all for that , nice!!!

Mykey I've always had MDF boxes. They have always been fine. If people are not prepared to pay for birch ply then it is MDF they get. I Wouldn't build a box from hardwood ply or anything like that because it is no good.
You could say something like good effort keep it up, but no ofcourse not because you're mykey. You chuck some negativity at me. ain't nobody got time for that man

Sometimes experience means people get stuck in their ways... there is no harm in doing things a little differently, if it works and user/customer is happy you cant really argue with that. I have build boxes from ply and MDF, there are pros and cons with both. One of the best results I ever got was a 2x15" cab made from 25mm MDF - weighed a ****ing ton but it sounded real nice. MDF is denser than ply, and since this job was for install, how it fared on the road was not at issue. Used correctly, MDF is just fine.
MDF can struggle a bit if not correctly sealed and protected, once it scuffs and allows moisture in it will tend to expand a little. MDF isnt perfect for a hard life on the road, but if you look after your kit, it's just fine.

And having spent a day with normal hardwood ply (it came as a deal) I can safely say never again. I'd rather buy 8 plastic corners and work with MDF than this stuff.
PCH, nice looking cabs.

The design in the link was mdf internal, ply external. That's the way I like to do it. And audio stash prices in mdf aren't cheap? Same price as other builders ply cabs. Unless I've been told wrong

I'm not making any judgments on price, just saying that MDF can work.
For boxes on the road, Ply is obviously better and will last longer.
When you look at the overall cost of a cabinet, including hardware, labour, driver, etc the wood cost is not a massive part, so although there is a saving with MDF, it is not massive.
Obviously, as cabs get bigger, the wood used also increases, so the saving of MDF starts becoming a little more noticeable.

define a good builder, one that 6 months ago could not brace even a reflex cab correctly, now claims to have designed several cabs.... More food for thought..... Like others have said, once the water drys behind his ears, he may well become a good builder, I would like to see some original work, not copies of others work....

I'm not going to justify that with an answer. This is a thread to show off build pics, nothing more.
Couple of guys heads are so far up their own arse they forget what it means to be righteous.

No they are just there for show, I don't use them.
I just hold panels in place with my teeth whilst fixing in position with a sledge hammer and roofing nails

A good machinist won't need clamps. I only ever had two max, and they rarley got used
You are a good cab builder, no doubt. Finishing needs some work as i can see, in some close up shots.
If i were you i would stick with current free designs and build up a name for yourself. Less than 1% of builders will make enough money to pay bills and live off the earnings
Don't try to come up with designs/experiment, then sell that work, you will end up getting a bad name. Try not to give advice on here if you can't back the advice up
Good luck
