Greetings Speakerplans crew,

we would like to share our new soundsystem with all of you, as we have finally found the sound we like. It took us about 15 years of playing, building, listening and trying out different set ups within the commercial sector aswell as the DIY area.

Enjoy the pictures!

This was taken last weekend @ Muffathalle Munich, Schlachthofbronx premier with Blurred Vision

Here it was set up for the promo video clip for Blurred Vision in an abandoned paper factory

And here the first stack while testing

That is massive..
what are you powering them with?dsp?

I bet the huge row of x1's makes a strong power alley in the middle without delays between them. How do they perform 16 side by side on the ground?

We are powering the lot with mostly Lab.Gruppen but trying out some other amps aswell at the moment and a xilica to control it.

The performance of 16 side by side was better than we thought, so we didn't delay them, as the sound was quite equally spread in the hall, of course a little less at the walls, but that turned out to be a good thing, causing allmost no reflections. Performance wise, over 1000 people and the place was rumbling all over, we where happy and the performing djs where aswell

if you cant make a room of 1000people wobble with that much kit, you have done something seriously wrong. Midtop aside, i would expect that rig to be capable of much larger crowds.

looks mean!

Blurred vision sounds like a proper name for a 1000 people event with a stack like this...

3 way bass?

16 X1s! good times there... that's the most i've ever heard of in one setup. what are they loaded with?

have you tried them on their sides? could be even better that way..

edit:

and are they super bass horns too?

funnily enough, people claim the opposite.... that they work better stood up. Beats me....

I haven't had the opportunity to test this myself. Usually I've used mine as they were designed.

Maybe elemental wave care to elaborate? Tongue

idea is upright, the lower tuned port is coupled to the floor, whereas on their sides, couple both ports to the floor.

in reality, looking at lengths of wavelengths involved here, and shear quantity, im not sure it will make much/any different here!!

The tops are Limmer 308, for those who wanted to know.

I dont get the SBH / X1 mixing aswell, i think they will use the X1 only for the very low notes because people seem to prefer wobbling in this range more than precision.

+ most likely limmer 115s bphs

dsp settings and idea behind the mix of bass cabs would be interesting indeed :)

guess 30-60/60-90/90-180/180up?
what puzzles me is the sbh+115 in the same passband (..none of both honestly copes well with imho)

Get rid of all the X1's , get some more SBH and that is one tasty rig!!

First of all, thanks for the positiv comments.

I will try to answer some of your questions:
Don't know about too many other x1, but ours seem to be quite tight on the low end.

You are close on guessing the crossovers, but we change and adjust them to the requierments of the locations every time we set the sound up. So there is no real answer I can give you here.

Midtop may look small to keep up with the bass (yes to the 3 way bass question), but it's really quite powerfull and wasn't pushed near maximum yet.

Laying the x1 or having them standing up, we haven't done an A/B test yet, so can't tell you for sure, but we have tried both, indoor and outdoor and it was good either way. We choose how to set them up mainly on location requierments depending hight and width.

Luckely enough, we can plan, before stacking

Well, we do not judge a book by it's cover and for us, there are no bad soundsystems, especially, because sound and the perceptive is individual and subjective, so our aim was to reproduce a sound we find most plesant. This setup works just fine for us, but I certainly get your point on the 2 different cabinets in the same bandwith, but it works.

After some testing and playing in different venues, we discovered, that for "our" sound, this choice was just right.
And according to some opinions from people who have heard it and know their ways in music a little, the sound seems to be quite nice.

But all of this talking wont tell you how it sounds, you will need to come and listenSmile

Feedback is still an issue with this setup, but we are close to solving the problemTongue

Yes, it's a 3D printed minirig on a scale of 1:25, makes planing a lot easier and is a lot more fun than in a 3D programm on a pc.
