Just scale it using one of the known dimensions as a ref.

Looks like the B36 would make a good kickbin. What's the frequency response like?

The SP council have decided it's naughty using 18" loaded cabs as kick bins.

I hear the Vega SL-36/AB36(afterburner) are  the only ones worth building, but you only get down to 30hz with 8, OR, 4 corner loaded or something.

Anyone have/seen decent plans of these?

I was given a pair of Cerwin Vega SL-36 subs that where in great shape but where unloaded about three months back. The first thing I did was add additional bracing internally then sprayed the internal chamber with Road Kill sound dampening spray. The wiring & back plate where missing so I soldered some 12 guage wire onto the factory plates from some old CV cabs I had laying around, then I loaded them up with a pair of JBL 2241G 18" subwoofers rated at 600 watts RMS @ 4 ohms that where serving as oversized paper wieghts in my sound room. I used a pair of QSC MX1500a each bridged (1300 watt @ 4 ohms bridged) & powering one SL-36, I then used my DBX Driverack PA to high pass them @ 35hz & crossed over at 80hz then put a delay of 5.46ms to my tops as spec'd by the Cerwin Vega tech dept. I said all this to say that these cabs now deliver deep tight bass that thumps deep within your chest & rumbles in your gut, for tops I am using a pair of Electrovoice T252 on top & a pair of Electrovoice Eliminator i tops on stands & still have excessive bass while playing bass heavy bass. If you are using these in a small room you will not get the full effect & potential of these cabs & would be better off using these in a larger room or outdoors. Though I admit there are better cabs available out there these aren't all that bad once properly powered, processed & placed.

Which one have you built mate ?

Also, do yourself a favour, brace the sh$t out of it, and deliberately make it heavy, with some double bracing.

Which driver have you got to test it with?

JE-36B, shame it's the junior, but seeing as this was just a test build, i'm more than happy to build a few of the afterburners...

OK. Don't over do it on the junior then...

Just remember junior doesn't perform anywhere near full size.

Have'nt seen any plans for Afterburner (AB36), but "think"  its really just SL36/B36 with Alu front cover as heatsink, and better driver.

Lot's of people sl*g off CV  36 lines, cos they haven't heard it with decent driver, setup or placement. But CV did produce a lot of low build quality cabs, and  the junior is least performing.

However Afterburner is accepted as the best 36, and  people say their home builds with extra bracing, sound dampening and decent suitable drivers blast original cabs out the park.

This is basically the same cab as the sl36 plans (posted earlier in this thread), except the front chamber is metal and has 2 edges, not 1.

So if someone edits the sl36 plan, t plan and adds the brace missing from top of chamber, and alu cover dimensions, we have the AB-36 plans.

When that is done, I'm half tempted to scale up horn section (not chamber or throat) detail by 1.333, to get 9ft horn instead of standard 6ft, which would mean flat to 30hz, not 50hz.

flat down to 30hz???
imo the best thing to do would be to use the vague plans available, and the age old horn responce doo dah, select an apropriate driver and "invent" the missing dimensions, ie redisign so it fits your aplication,
but to be honest all ive done is reworded your last sentence.......
you may just end up with a realy good cab though.... and its not technicaly a copy, youve just taken alot of inspiration and done a bit of work yourself......

Well, we now actually have all info required to fabricate an AB36. Have read many places 1850 loaded original AB36 will demolish 2x genuine AB36 no problem.

So after I have a cloned AB36 with suitable driver (1850 expensive and hard to get hold of), I'll take it from there.

For me the hardest part is translating hornresp figures to drawing's, not using hornresp or identifying good drivers. Have spent too much time recently doing exactly this.

Without even modelling this in hornresp, I cant tell the SD18 with 5mm Xmax aint it dawg.

This baby looks like it has fairly large chamber, which dictates something like PD1850/V18-1000, OR  18LW1400/RCFL18P300/PD186/18TBX100[.

Just found the following post which should help model SL36 and identify suitable drivers "properly".

WARNING:The below post and horn measurements are also for the JE36 (Junior),  which is only 24" (62.2 cm) Deep;  NOT the "Mighty" SL36.

well SD18 and C18 are the most available and reliable drivers that can be found here at home.....

I hope i could post some pictures of some crap type of speakers soon...

well they are marked 1000watt doubled magnet ones but when powered

with continues 800watt or so for some 4 hour or more , voice coils

deforms and burnt.......

Blue Line: SL-36 with SD18
Grey Line: 1850Horn with SD18
both modeled 1/8 space
