Yes, Ray (Bonza) also had a run in with Mr. Rocky. Likewise ended up with a load of PS gear in lieu of money.  Ouch

Hi,
I have two tops, dual 12 plus compression driver..mine have original psl 12 drivers which were eminence kappa pro 12's in them and the selenium s were replaced with beyma 2" as the seleniums were hard to find diaphragms for.
I also have a pair of dual driver subs to match..
There are all the laboratory series..

Having a re think on our tops. We were thinking of selling them, but they are very well put together.

That and it is £4k to replace them with what we are looking at.

At the minute they are loaded with the Fane 12-500 and they dont sound too bad at all. But they run out of steam and can't keep up with the rest of the rig.

Can anyone suggest a suitable, much better 12 inch to slip into the cab....owwwer missus!

Rest of the rig is 8 scoops run on 2 x CA18's
2 x ASS BS1200 run from 2 x CA12's
4 x PS twin 12 plus 2 inch run on 2 x 2450's and an XT2000.
Side fill will be 2 x mt212 style 10's and 2 inch not sure what amps, PPX maybe?
Centre fill will be 2 x 12 plus 1''  PA1500.

DJ monitors will be either 2 x JBL Pro SR4733a or Nexo MSI'V sat on 2 x Logic systems 18 inch push pulls.

Music is mainly house, dub, dnb.

So you can see they have quite a bit to do...lol.

Also...

If anyone has a pair of these in decent condition, we may be in the market to buy some more.

You need something much more efficent, but by the time you've spent 600-800 replacing the drivers I'd say it would be more cost effective to sell them and invest the money in something else. You could probably pick up 4 mt 121's loaded for around £1200 which will suit your needs better.

So do you think 4 x 12 plus 1.4 will be better than 4 double 12's plus 2 inch? 4 single 12's will have to work seriously hard to keep up with whats underneath.

4 Mt's will keep up if loaded properly (PD 123er , BMS 12n610's, B&C etc)
Those P'S tops aren't very efficient and don't really throw very well. Mine ran out of steam under 2 1850 loaded cubo 18's and some old folded kicks similar to the fane design, 1 MT would just be ticking over.

was wondering too, are these PS cabs really that inefficient?
8 hornloaded 12" should easily keep up with 8 scoops..

3 SP12 horns easily kept up with 4 scoops+4hd15s for example.

At the last gig in this venue, we had 8 scoops, 4 Martin Y's the 4 tops and another 2 x 2 inch hf horns and it sounded nice.

This time we just want to rip the place apart...

Same 8 scoops but we have swapped the 4 Martin Y bins to 4 x ASS BS1200. The 4 ASS kicks are much more powerful than the Martin bins. So we are going to add our twin 10 plus 2 inch to the stacks, they are more directional so help further back.

There are no back bowls in our boxes, we have thought about getting some. Would that make much difference?

dont know the cabs but back chamber of the 12s should be as small as possible imo.
headroom on the 12s also relies alot on xover, specially if chamber is rather big.
try crossing them higher to your bs1200s?

damping the sides in front of the hf might help reduce colouration, have a look at ohm trs212..
instead of more 2" maybe a couple of bullets or 1" might be a better extension?
