Proline will kill everything if clipped, even once. Seen XP3000 on bench dummy load test, my own amp in perfect order. No where near 1500 a side. The older model pre XP 3000 did though. Spend more or wait for the Berry NX6000 next month.

For the under 500 mark my alternatives could be a qsc 4050 or a crest 8001. I’m quite sceptical about the berry’s ratings as I will be using it for sub, I won’t be able to get it in time for my giggs too. I prefer a big toroidal amp on bass, the matrix was a recommendation from a friend who powered his scoops off one.
I have heard about the prolines clipping and it’s putting me off a bit despite its decent benchmark figures. I’m powering 2 pd186 hogs (mk1) and possibly 2 186 es18s (if I find something suitable). I’ve seen a matrix xt5000 pop up which looked like it would be upto the job and also the macro tech 3600vz. It’s just very hard to come accross certain amps.

Funny that about the Crown 3600 being a killer of drivers. I have never blown a driver with one. Still got 5 in my arsenal.

8001. EV P3000 (it WONT overheat if you get the bias and other adjustments done properly), 4050, big Peavey GPS 3400, Crown 5000. Moving modern a Yamaha T5n will do the job and a few have gone for 7/800. The Peavey although a couple of hundred watts short does almost the same at 40hz as 10k! With the Berry I meant two of them. |

I might be to get my hands on a 8001 (recently serviced) and qsc 4050, out of the two which would you recommend? Will the 8001 have enough power for x4 186s? I want it to be reliable and don’t want to be carrying out too many repairs.
The Yamaha/p3000 are abit out my price range. The peavey amp looks decent, just depends whether I’d be able to find one. |

I’d decided to go for the 8001, what did you have?
