RCF 1018 bass cab

   Can anyone explain this particular cab's design with the enormous port. If you Google the design and look at the images, the 18" is sitting in a relatively small air space which then passes down an air duct, then turns 90° and then becomes an even wider port 22cm times the cabinet width. All angles are straight, so there's no horn element. Not seen this type of thing in other reflex designs. All I know is, there must be something good about it, as I remember a club that had a wall of 8 of these and the bass was phenomenal

	A Bass Reflex tuned very high to achieve a lot of SPL from 55 Hertz on up. The size of the port dictates the output similar to a mouth of a horn. Due to such a large port area, the length of the port needs to be bent in order to achieve a lower frequency. Many mistake such design as a Scoop. However, with no compression expansion ratio it is a Reflex box. Marketing will even call it a rear loaded horn just to attract more sales. That design is roughly 40+ years old. Best Regards,
