Hi

has anyone measured the mains current drawn by different amps whilst playing music. I'm interested in seeing what the max and minimum currents are, what percentage of the time the amp is drawing current, and how quickly the amp recharges its caps after high output. what are the differences between different amp classes and power supplies?

there are some screenshots here:

https://www.abeltronics.co.uk/amptesting.php?z=Lexon_PXM1450

showing the mains power waveforms but these are playing sine waves near clip. what happens when the signal has a high peak to average ratio (say 6:1) and a duty cycle - like a drum beat.

looking at simulating output device and heatsink temperature using differential equations in MathCad or simlilar - anyone already done this and have a script?

There is cool company called Prodance, situated in the Czech Republic. Every year, it does free demo and comparison session. One of these was current load of the amps, and also current load for weak power line. It greatly depends on what amp topology you use, linear or SMPS, PFC or without PFC, one phase or more. Generally, linear PSUs have very high peaks, SMPSs are close, and clever SMPS with good PFC is very stable with the current draw. It was interesting to me, that SMPS was more demanding, because it delivered the rated power no matter what. Linear supply with lower input voltage or peak in "zero point" of the phase will draw less. It also sounded weaker for same gain.
Nikon and Canon people should not be married to each other. Why did you let this happen?
