Have been getting a rather nasty burning smell in my van recently, like the smell a clutch makes when it's burning up Dead.
I have also had 25 amp fuses pop, replace fuse, amp and sub work fine, turn it off, then back on again and fuse has popped.
Was getting some tyres fitted the other day and decided to have a bit of a better look, turned out there was smoke coming from the port on the sub,it's in the back of the van, sealed in behind the metal firewall.

I have a Fusion encounter fe402,running bridged,into a Fusion encounter sub,ex wife bought it for me,as a package deal,with a jvc headunit.

Took out the driver and it was rubbing like feck..
Took the cone out of the basket and this is what I found, guess that was the cause of the popping fuses...

Can anyone recommend a decent replacement driver ?

Here are the specs.

  • CHANNELS:

  • POWER:
    - 2 x 70W RMS @ 2 Ohms
    - 2 x 50W RMS @ 4 Ohms
    - 1 x 140W RMS Bridged @ 4 Ohms
  • STABLE TO:
    - 2-Ohm Stereo
    - 4-Ohm Mono
  • S/N RATIO:
    - > 90 dB
  • THD:
    - 0.05%

Cheers Smile

Thumbs Up

Seriously... Have you checked the amp hasn't gone DC, the state of the VC and the popping of fuses would suggest it has?

Yes,

with no signal put the meter on DC volts and measure across the speaker outs on the amp... any DC voltage greater than about +/-100mV is not good, 500mV is bad..
