Hi all,
Been looking at my old sound system and have got some blown drivers to replace. Front loaded, ported cabs from Intimidation. Back of the cab says: 8ohm 600w RMS 1200w peak. Driver has no manufacturer's mark, just a barcode. One driver is making the sound of coil grinding/scraping blown, the other showing no continuity but otherwise seems good! Anyway, as they are no-name drivers I'm assuming repair is unlikely. Please recommend me some of your favourite 18s in this power region. They will mostly be used up to 100hz. Any thoughts welcome, Jim PS Forgot to mention that they will be driven with a t.amp 2400 mk x Edited by jimi13243 - 09 January 2022 at 9:44pm |

I like B and C 18TBX100. High Power. Works good in a wide range of cab sizes and designs. VECTORSONICS

You kinda need to find a driver that will work with the box’s volume and tuning. Plenty of apps / software out there to simulate how different drivers behave so get your tape measure out!
The good news is that the focus of most manufacturers R&D depts. is on drivers that will work best in compact reflex enclosures so you will have a good choice The bad news is that enclosures from budget brands such as intimidation tend to be poorly braced and weakly constructed, i’m not sure i’d be throwing a lot of cash at them unless these boxes are the exception to that rule.

if you are sure they were suitable original drivers then send them to be re-coned. anyone competent will be able to replace the moving parts with something similar to give approximately the same t/s parameters.

Thanks for the advice chaps,
I'll come back with some more pictures and some measurements. Can't be sure the originals were well suited but they always sounded good to me! Jim |

So:
0.648*0.508*0.459 = 0.151m^3 OR 151 litres internal volume deduct ~2 litres for handles, electronics, bracing etc. Leaves ~149 litres internal volume Port area= (24.4*7.5) + (25*7.5) = 183cm^2 + 187.5cm^2 = 370.5cm^2 port area which travels along a 15cm throat. I don't know if the area between the bracing is relevant but I measured it anyway so: 36.4*38.4 = 1400cm^2 area between bracing. Where do I plug these numbers then? Here's the original driver.
As far as I can tell, the barcode only encodes the serial below it: D320805104 Edited by jimi13243 - 10 January 2022 at 4:05pm |

Do you use the internal passive crossovers? If so, time to ditch them and use an active crossover.

Nope, I have an active crossover at 100hz from studiomaster. Old thing with swappable cards to set Hz.
The internal xover you see can be optionally activated with a switch on the rear for filtering of passthrough signal to satellite speakers. I've never used it since I've always ran the subs as part of 2 way active. Oh yeah someone near me has a 4 pd186 for sale. Thinking they might sound pretty good if he'll sell a pair...
