    Posted: 26 July 2023 at 3:48pm
whats up peepow

i have 4 MT122 with 2x 12NDL76 each and beyma 1x CP-800/Ti

now the beyma compression driver goes nuts above 16~17khz
its really nasty sounding, so i have to almost eliminate everything above 17khz.
sounds not good :/

my question is for alternative recommendations, any compression drivers that would fit
into MT122 and sound good up to 20khz ? i remember some people wrote many years ago,
that these CDs doesnt sound so well and after some events i can agree with that, up to 16 17khz
everything is ok, but above that, it drills your eardrums at higher volumes. i played around with different settings LMS /EQ but with no success. except the crazy ass weight of the MT122
i love them, they kick like hell, specially psytrance and sound incredible.
im 41 and the weight sux. but what u gonna do if you in love with soundsystems :)

so any recommendations would be appreciated ! price is secondary, soundquality is more important.

thanks !Thumbs Up

greetings from germany

Can you hear upto 20 khz?
For a start, which horns do you have?
If horn is not matched to the CD, forget all about nice sound upto 20khz.

If 18khz in quantity, will do, I can recommend the following CD from personal use:
Beyma CP850TI 2", run 1.5khz - 18khz

Horns I have used with this:
B&C ME75 Alum, very very expensive.
Paudio PH - 4525 http://p-audio.co.uk/pdf/PH_4525.pdf

Both available from Blue Aran.

Best 2" Horn I have ever heard, for upper freq extension, and throw, is this:

https://products.electrovoice.com/binary/HP940_Horn_EDS.pdf

I have about 10x of them, and would take "beaucoup d'argent", to loose any from my grasp.

They are huge, and may not fit in MT122.

Ciare PR614 would be one of the best options for a 1.4" HF.
Also note that the CP800/Ti is a pretty old HF driver which is not capable of delivering good performance >10kHz.

Almost all modern 4" diaphragm HF's stop at 16kHz (which is not a problem for most PA situations). So I am quite sure you are hearing something different than the problems at 17kHz.

i see....... hmmmm

what i can tell is, no, i pretty sure cant hear anything above 15khz.... i dont know,
but what killed our ears were really harsh highs.... horrible.... i cant tell for sure which hz-range, but it was pretty ...high :/ the horns im using are BMS 2230.

when its not the weird upper ~17khz range thats cacophonous, what could it be ?

maybe shitty material, cant remember what we played (dj live and phone/mp3/flac) maybe strange routing (ultradrive)....hmm

thanks so far

BMS 4590 if you have an existing 2" horn

The BMS 4594HE sounds better imho, (I own 16), but you'd need a 1.4" horn flare

The B&C DCX464 is also worth a look, but I'd say that has a better mid range, than HF

In my experience, harshness is typically in the 1k to 10k range, above that is more considered 'airy' or 'sizzle'. 4k is a particularly offensive area that I would normally look at first when top end is harsh/unpleasant. But yeah poor quality source material (anything below 320 mp3) can make for unpleasant top end.

I Have never rated the CP800TI, much prefer the CP750TI, even if it is cheap and cheerful.

There is an art to tunng 2" Comps, and it involves more cuting, and flattening. than boosting eq.

BMS 4590 ( previously recommended), is a most excellent choice, another similar solution, would be run 2" Comps upto 10khz, and add 1" per cab, run active also, tuned from 9khz to 18khz. Could place 1" horn, in top 12" horn flare.

Needs right 1" and horn, e.g., B&C DE25 and ME45 horn, (cheap option), or maybe something more bourgeois.

Why is BMS 4590 so expensive !?
Because it gives you exactly what you want..

Remember it is a 2" and 1" combined.

What horns do you have?
No point buying expensive driver, and having trash 2" horns.
