Good stuff is not cheap. You want good sound, you pay for it.

It is funny how the most expensive drivers available almost always get pushed straight away on here. ![]() I've got several P-Audio BM-750's and I love 'em. On a decent horn they hold up well up to around 17kHz . I've also tested them against the original B&C DE-750, as well as several JBL, Beyma and other drivers. They are great - and won't need a bank loan, like so many others. ![]() |

"With a $2,258 list price, I suspect this compression driver will find
its way into very high-end theater speakers and PA systems, where detail
and timber at high volume levels is essential. Beryllium has an
outstanding sound quality and excels at detail and definition, so making
a compression driver diaphragm from this material has been highly
successful" Oo ok, im convinced. i just did a quick checkup on the RCF nd950-2 and found that 700~ price. toutlehautparleur.com is a good find, are they to be trusted? never heard of them. P-Audio is some thaibrand if i remember correctly? never worked with some of their product, but been to thailand several times, when it comes to PA and speakerequipment in general..... its mostly big and loud and cheap, in thailand the most important thing when it comes to a gift is the box its wrapped into, the gift itself is secondary. so when i was at a party or festival (were they have countless foodstalls) they have big PAs that sound like a tortured trashcan. i will give P-Audio a look. whats your opinion on the BMS 2230 horns im using? i have nothing to compare, every hornspeaker here is diy. |

"i will give P-Audio a look." Please do. Almost all of the plans for the mid-top cabs on this site come with P-Audio as the recommended driver. I basically went from Gauss to P-Audio and have never regretted it, especially as regards the weight difference when you change to the neodymium drivers! ![]() And yet to blow a P-Audio driver. In over 15 years I've been using them. Several different models, 18's, 12's and 2". Just think about that one! ![]() |

At the cheaper end of the scale, Nigel@leanbusiness still has some 2" Celestions on sale for £90. I think they are CDX20 3075.

A good maxim, in terms of buying sound system parts, is buying the best you can afford, as opposed to the cheapest you can find. As stated previously, if you can't find used BMS 4590 in your budget, consider getting 1" comp and horns to go in spearate cabs above your MTs, or fit the 1" horn flare inside the 12" MT flare, similar to this void cab. ![]() For best results, I used LMS, with fully active sections, powered by separate amplifiers. right now, im on it again, still looking for alternatives for the CP800TI, this time with the help of ai. i think i will change to the P-audio horn
PH-2380 which supposed to be a 1:1 copy of the JBL horn JBL 2380Aso this one is available for 50eur a piece which is an ok price. as a CD im still undecided between the RCF ND950 2.0 which has an insane price of 342eur at tut le haut parleurBMS 4590 which i read about has some reliability issuesB&C Speakers DE950TNthey r all in a similar pricerange, and when i can sell the CP800TI which have risen in price from 350 that i paid in 2017? to 400-500eur, thats good. guess ferrit /ND doesnt matter too much cuz a MT122 is ~75kg so 5 kg more or less, who cares. which one would u recommend? |

I’ve got 4 of the RCF 950s on BMS 2236 horns above JBL 2226 15s. I built them in separate boxes and they’re really sweet. Whilst it’s quite a lot of money, I don’t regret it. I have never needed to fight with them to get them to sound sweet. The only thing I got wrong was the splay angle for the boxes so there’s a slight gap at about 8-10m away. If doing it again I’d build the boxes differently but wouldn’t change the components…
