Hi guys,
So I've got a few broken mrk 2 xtro phase bungs which I've unsuccessfully been attempting to replace, looked into various methods of synthesizing them such as machining them out of thin ply with expanding foam inside, 3d printing, fibreglassing and then finishing, all seems a lot of effort so I kept on the hunt for any old stock of the mark2. As people know , the early mark 2's had a design flaw which meant that the resin supports were not strong enough to hold the weight of the solid resin bung, i believe this may have been sorted out in later production but we still have all early production mrk 2's.
I've been offered 7x mrk 3 bungs, (enough to replace all my speakers with the mrk 3 and then have a spare one) , my question is would using the mrk 3 phase bung (slightly different shape, more like a rocket with a pointed end rather than rounded end) with the mark2 flare cause an issue? obviously the mark 3 flare is slightly different. Is this going to ruin the sound or will the difference be unnoticeable? Im not too clued up on the actual purpose of the bung I assume its to do with sound dispersion? Also, looking at pictures of the mark 3 bung & mounting ring it looks just as fragile as the mrk2's we currently have. Was the design flaw fixed later, I think I remember hearing that the problem was solved by putting a small metal rod inside of the supporting struts that connect the bung to the mounting ring. Is this the case? Thanks for your help guys |

It has not been solved in mk3
I recently buyed a pair from purple dot audio, one of them arrived broken. I lost half of my money as he has not take care of it. He had me some time waiting while he tried to get some refund from the courier insurance (box was not damaged), then stoped answering my messages. Nice deal.

Yes I would not deal with mykey. He took my money to build me a pair of mrk 2 phase bungs a few years back and still had not done them 6 months later so I demanded my money back!
I would only deal with 3rd partys when it comes down to stuff he has produced |

can't help you but have you found anyone selling any version of these horns? i have 4 of the drivers here and always figured some of these horns would be better than just building the wooden horn from the original plan.
