Hi all , just thought I would give the heads up about how I tackle this as its just happened...really annoying when it odes...so I was removing a Phillips head screw (not countersunk) and it mashed up, had the correct bit too, my way of moving them is to use a pair of electrical snips and grab the top of the screw (same position as screwdriver) let the snips bite in to the metal and then clasp hard and turn...never fails.
Anyone else got a bot of kit that does it or other ideas?

Ive been known to either cut a slot across so that a flat head screwdriver works, or depending on accessibility use vice grips. Failing that... angle grinder or drill (depending on mood!) to take the head off, so I can remove whatever its holding on, then vice grips on the bit remaining.
Angle grinder is mostly used on the cars, wouldn't obviously use them on a delicate item

Rubber band between the screw head and the driver tip. It's a trick that has surprised many.

Get a lot of this on the old motorcycles I work on. First I'd bang an old Torx/star bit into it, so that it goes in nice and tight and then use a T-handle or socket wrench to undo it. If that fails, get gash old chisel to cut a groove all the way along (or a dremel if you have one) and then get a flat head screwdriver at an angle into the top of the groove and whack it in an anti clockwise direction.
