Hi
I am making some front loaded 18" boxes I was wondering what would happen if didn't port them? can somebody tell me the pro's and cons of sealed and ported boxes?

It depends on the driver. If it's prosound 18's then you'll have low output and likely overexcursion unless the box is small(even less output) It's(sealed) almost never considered for sound reinforcement

Sealed boxes are generally more 'HI-FI' in that they usually have a flatter frequency output over the range they produce. The bottom of their range is usually higher, but they're bass roll off is generally more gradual from this point. Ported boxes are usually much louder (as much as 10db in one system i looked at) and have a lower bottom end depending on where you tune the port, but once they reach this they roll off a lot sharper. kev |
