Its a farce really though, because even if they have statistics to show people reduce or stop their downloading/sharing after a warning, thats not to say they're still not obtaining it by other means e.g. getting their mate to burn them a copy, usb keys, etc  Its existed since before people made home cassettes and swapped films on VHS and it will continue regardless.  The P2P networks will simply find a way to mask what is being transferred so there is no way of proving whats been obtained.

This is already getting watered down. Quangos, committees, not to mention the fact they are losing voters by the ton. I recon it's just posturing as they need to placate the film and music empire, now they arn't going to introduce laws.

Yeah - i doubt that this will be workable in the real world. More a case of playing to the gallery. Heard an interesting item of the radio earlier, where a pundit was saying that ISPs that don't tow the line will potentially become more popular with Torrent users etc due to the lack of regulation with certain providers.

It's an old debate which has been well covered on other forums - but the flaws in the anti-piracy argument are simple. When figures for the cost of piracy are bandied about, they always assume that they've lost sales when there's no evidence to suggest that the person downloading the torrent would have gone out and purchased the CD/Movie instead.

Like Norty says, they could borrow it from a mate or rip it etc

Any legislation will take an eternity to be passed anyway, by which time we're likely to see a change in Government and a probable shift in priorities too.

Yep, think what a change like this would do to the voting population, given the economic situation, and the numbers supposedly ripping off all this material....   certainly not a vote winner!
