do shielded voice coils designed to be used near TVs still mess up hard drives? i want to make a 4 order band pass out of a small hifi driver to sit under a laptop (part of a 2.1)???

Its not the voice-coil that's shielded its the Magnet. I would be careful with any magnet that is going to sit that close to my hard drive shielded or not. Probably suck it and see but do a full back-up first.

I would say that if it's a shielded magnet that is designed to go near a TV you should be ok with a hard drive. Never tried it tho so +1 for the full back-up!
