Yes - I´ve seen their (so-called) 5000W amp and that´s about right. Crap on a stick would be an understatement. |

For skytec id Divide the power stated by 10, then take 30% + off that
for distortion and efficiency issues and you are almost there id expect. Then with that figure if you plan to use it to its max, you may get double digits in minutes if you are lucky before it turns off. If its comes back on again at some point you have one of the better ones ;)
In a nut shelll AVOID !!!!

Damn, the transformer and the chassis could have been used for another project. |

..could have built a nice little 150w plate amp for a home sub with that.. transformer was prob. The only thing worth its weight (literally) in that amp |

Yeah, I would also use that chassis for some other projects.. however, that's quite expensive chassis.
Skytec amps, as you said has much less output power than they claim. 2x1000W really is just 2x100W or so with these cheap amplifier kind things. And that's not all.. some models has no output protection, not even fuses! Circuits are really bad design, some of them are self destructing: thermal runaway -> shorted output transistors -> full DC to speakers. So you also lose your speakers when this happens. Looking for cheap amplifier? Go for behringer or T-amp. They are actually quite neat, well built and gives some real output power! Some of them are actually copied from QSC rmx series. I have one Tamp TA-1400 and it really gives about 1kW of RMS power (measured). Edited by Tonskulus - 05 October 2017 at 9:00pm |
