Can't show my lunch as I ate it as a priority, (ham salad baguette) but it was too obvious a fault I suppose.
What was not so obvious was the output channel blow up. Luckily these are not the worst to do providing the pcb isn't burned around the 'op amp supply' resistors that require upgrade on these early PLX boards.

Just been repairing a frazzled amp. Nothing special - a little LEM jobbie. Depending on the damage I see, I will generally advise the client to also check his cabs & cables.

The guy just dropped everything off for me to check. Good thing, too. It looks like someone has been using 1 of his cables for tug of war!  WTF...

Yeah - & a few other things! But luckily the main PCB survived. No excessive burning. The guy was lucky!

Haha, no. Decent cable is available. This one was weird. It had proper (Neutric) lugs crimped on, but done really badly, with the exposed wire all screwed up as you can see. The guy said that the he'd just bought the system (LEM amp & a couple of DAS 12" & 1" cabs). The amp obviously didn't fire up, so he brought it to me. I didn't ask what he'd paid - or why he hadn't tried the system before buying. Maybe bought "as is, untested", who knows.

The other odd thing was that the DAS cabs were wired on pins 2+/2- on the input speakons. From the factory. It was printed clearly on the input plate. Maybe part of a bigger system with subs as well. The guy only had the mid/tops. I ended up just wiring up a couple of new cables for him - wired from 2+/2- to bananas as the amp didn't actually have speakons - just the typical "5-way binding posts". Which makes me think that the original system would have had some sort of splitter fitted to run subs off 1+/1-.

Anyway, once running properly the cabs sounded fine & the guy was happy. I do like a happy ending!!    LOL LOL LOL
