strangely "Soundout" owned by Todd Wells went on to become Soundtracs & eventually Digico so go figure!!!  John Stadius a very good designer did most of the stuff there

I can confirm those Soundout console's and amps went bang all the time around here.  I fixed loads of them. The Citronic ones just kept going.

Biggest issue with them was the nice bright Red bits being Painted and introducing a thermally high junction stressing the output devices causing secondary breakdown as it was usually the power devices failing due to bad cooling.

Hi Steve it would be easier to explain over the phone. If your willing to send me a text I could ring and explain.

Does anyone have (or know of anyone who has) Jingle Machines for sale ?  It doesn't matter whether they are Sonifex, Roger Squires, or any make or model.  As long as they are in good working order, I will pay good money for them !

Hi thanks for the reply. I have recently aquired a thames unit but it does not have any speaker-out sockets. Ive had a quick look and I dont think the amplifiers are in place but im not sure. I have 2 other units also not working and wondered if one working unit could be salvaged from the 3. Any help appreciated. Cheers Dave

Mostyn Hi……….Bit of history…….

SAI (Sounds Advice Installations) had a shop in Standish on the outskirts of Wigan. My brother Billy (not Dave as you suggested) was a DJ in north west London in the early seventies and I (Eddy) lived in Skelmersdale nr Wigan. His success prompted me to start a mobile disco in the Skelmersdale area and in 1973  I bought the equipment from SAI (record decks and 2 x base reflex cabinets). Some time later Billy also bought the same rig from SAI, discarding his homemade speakers & deck. In August 1974 we both moved and settled in Stafford and continued with our separate mobile discos under the same name of “Mooncity Disco.”

The Aquarius ballroom at Hednesford, Cannock was run by Cannock District Council and on Mondays & Wednesdays held teenage discos 7pm till 10.30pm.

The ballroom could hold upto 500 people so hence Billy and myself doubled up using both rigs and achieved an undistorted sound using 4 x SAI base reflex cabs + horns, we slaved up with 2 x 100watt Hi Watt valve amps. On a few occasions the numbers exceeded 500.

Disco music took off in the seventies with many of the Cannock kids being introduced to northern soul after visiting clubs at Stoke on Trent and of course Wigan Casino and the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool. They brought with them their own northern soul imports, which we played at the Aquarius. It was a great time.

Eddy
