For people like myself, the photos bring back some good memories, not necessarily about the work, but the spectacle  of the system. Although I am in awe of the technology, I just don't excited about a line array system like I did about about the early systems.

The two above systems have a great deal of prescence.  I am sure stood infront of them you knew about it.

Yes, and remember - none of those fancy 4 or 8 core cables! However, apart from the Grateful Dead system, what about Iron Maiden's Turbosound rig for complexity? Imagine trying to locate a dodgy driver or connection in this lot.  Still, I bet there aren't many line arrays could produce the SPLs this thing could put out:

Well trained cable there. Fortunately, on my little system, only two 8 way cables needed per side, even then the surplus gets stuffed behind the cabs in small places.

It's the "lets just pile it up and make a wall of sound" method, but that was the way back in the 70's...i expect its a 3-way, those big 4550 bass cabs are getting the same bass signal as the smaller 4560's....then probually crossed at 800hz to the 2" radials and lenses (or as low as 500hz if they have the phenolic diaphragms in,2482 etc)..and then some 1" horns and bullets around 7khz for some sparkle.

It was all very simple, but it worked, and was seriously loud. Those 2356 20x40* horns (above the 4550's in the centre of the above photo) would be about 119 db/w/m with the 2482 drivers on the back.
