How many of your men did it take to put those mid-tops on top of the upper bass cabs?

Do you mean you have completed only this one system and it's being demoed in France currently?

I'm thinking of the tweeters because I know that hf from tweeters will sound very different than the same frequency from the horn and it will controlled separately. It's just the add on ambience that I'm interested in.

What I'm saying here is that just because the PA doesn't use scoops for subs, it doesn't guarantee that it will be any better.
Engineering will always be the key. I don't defend scoops as a manufacturer, because in the overall scheme of things, I have built far more normal Reflex cabs than anything else.
Just reading this thread because of the new post, and it reminded me of the only time I can recall where scoops were specifically requested by the artist - the Crystal Palace Garden Party with the Beach Boys in 1972. I wasn't there, but an old mate of mine who was a jobbing musician at the time, bought some of the custom built scoops which were specc'ed. They were JBL 2x15s with Altec drivers with aluminium rather than copper edge-wound voice coils and were built for (by?) Jim Marshall. There is an an article here which mentions the build http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/Garden-party-72.html but I shall try and find some pics of the system if I can.

That's a great find Jazzy, The 2x15 scoops were part of the Marshall range when they doing PA systems. I guess they would normally have had Celestions in them.

I should add, I think Scoop Bins have always been very good for PA, it's just that from a PA perspective, especially when the point of reference is a reggae Sound system, A PA Company Proprietor could never be interested.
Scoops came out of the Cinema Industry so they must have had something going for them.
With sensible control, or should I say, with a normal Engineers approach to them, they would be as good as anything else.
One last thing, when I've heard bad Subs in a PA, it's never been Scoops it's always been something else.

I have a pic of the Marshall stuff from that time (when I was at college in 72/73 a local DJ had 4 of these stacks - loaded with Powercells IIRC which was certainly a cut above other mobile systems).

However, I'm not certain that the scoops in the photo were the same as the ones built for/by Jim Marshall, I am sure they were original JBL designs, but I could be mistaken.

The other pic I have seen where scoops were used was at CALJAM, but obviously these were provided by the sound company, Tycobrahe. This pic has been shown here before, but it really shows what a big system was like in the old days before Lying Arrays (thanks for the name, Ivan Beaver)

We have used our scoops for dozens of times for live stuff and we have received only compliments from bands, promoters and audience, that is if anyone really bothers to comment about the sound. I have no reason to not to use them for everything we do. For smaller events we tend to pair them up with very traditional 15" / 2" EAW midtops, for bigger events requiring more oomph from 100hz up we combine them with 1850 horns and (in the past) with Stasys 3, now that Stasyses have been sold we're renting Porn Horns whenever the need comes, we're in the slow process of replacing midtops and 1850 horns. Scoops will stay. They really seem to perform everywhere. This friday my friend used two of them for small death / trash metal event. Come to think of that, few last times they've been out, it's been for few metal events, Major Lazer, DJ Storm and some Techno stuff, so quite a bit of variety.

This early Marshall stuff is what Joe Brown started with when he formed MEH (Marshall Equipment Hire) and then went on to do Tasco, who I believe at one time might have been the biggest PA company in the world. Great days.
