Defo, if I need to sound check I do it in the garden or higher a venue, gp is different in it cost less to sound check in a venue, than hiring it, but people come to watch. When some one pays to watch regardless if its a sound check deserve to be entertained... Take wasie one very very entertaining last time I saw him at gp..

If system is up to par, and Selectors/mic man are good, people will be entertained.

Difference between GP & Solo sound-check, is, it allows 4x systems to measure themselves up against each other.

GP soundcheck scares many crews, because it takes proper 4x cabs & system/engineer, to impress in there.

Crews who know they've "got the minerals", relish the opportunity to show off & blaze the place.LOL

A man can easily say his sound or his box is wicked, and he is happy.

Means nothing, till compared to what's out there.

GP gives realistic opportunity to do that.

Not everyone can handle that opportunity/pressure.

Stop press... I agree with lev lol, but that's not the point, ok so you get a system in gp sounding great, then what, no entertainment musically or mic... Seen it to many times. In reference to gp the entertainment value can be poor, and I would only be inclined to see some sounds again based on sound system, and how they entertained me... Too many time have I gone home, thinking nice system but poor entertainment. Going back to wassie one, not the best system I've ever heard in there, but boy he knows how to put a show on.

For the system owner going into GP, it's about sound checking your set, testing your cabs, giving them good thumping, and trying diff LMS settings if necessary. Entertainment is last on the agenda.

If set is not firing or cabs/drivers mediocre, crowd will be laughing at you anyway, never mind not being entertained.

Unless it's a GP dance (NOT SOUNDCHECK), where Entertainment is priority. Don't get it twisted.
