Thanks for the advise.
Currently have a rack loaded with ultradrive and 3 matrix amps to feed the xtro's 1 small UKP to feed B&C DE-500 1 spare duplicate amp for above as redundancy str/xp2000 to feed 8pe21 str/xp3000 to feed all four 15", cant remember model No this leaves me with two str/xp3000's to feed the 4 x 1850's v18-1000 loaded Would probably end up building another 2 1850's if i could run them from current amps for now. May end up with a total of 8 x 1850's at which point i would add another 2 amps to keep things simple. My thinking is if i can find a way to run 6, as a temporary measure, from the 2 x xp3000's it may be worth getting some extra ply and cutting whilst my storeroom is still in a mess. If 6 x 1850's will sound no better than 4 x 1850's because the amps cant drive them as effectively I may as well wait a while to have the budget to build cabs and buy amps at the same time. Thank you all for your knowledge. Edited by Sinfinity - 14 October 2008 at 7:34pm |

If you run 4 bins off one xp3000 and 2 off the other (2 and 1 per channel respectively) they will see approximately the same power. You would need to perhaps back off the gain on one amp to balance it all if you are a perfectionist but it will work ok!
You could drive 8 bins with two xp3000s with 2 bins on each channel, at max gain they should see about 700w each which should be quite enough to shake things. |

I don't recall you mentioned what drivers you were going to load them with, obviously some contenders for the 1850 bin will take much more power than 700W without breaking their stride. But considering that roughly above 500W per driver power compression starts to become a real issue I would say it is a fine starting point. You can always upgrade to bigger amps in the future after getting experience running with what you have. 8 1850s with 700W each is still going to be some air movement by anyones standards. You can move a fair bit with 1000W into a dual 18" reflex bin if it is designed right and the 1850 certainly is tried and tested in that respect.

![]() ![]() Nice to have some space for assembly. Shame it was on carpet. There is a bit of a jump after these shots, I forgot camera during assembly of first 1850, but will take pics of the second one. I know my woodworking is by no means perfect, so feel free to point out errors and flaws. Took a lot longer that i thought it would, but it was a very pleasant distraction from normal work. |
