lol.. i remember jamo's ..the (piss) poor mans imitation cerwin vega's ;)
i remember a set of tower hifi speakers i encountered by them which couldnt manage more than a handful of watts before bottoming out ! ..not even satisfying for a hifi ..shame :) |

for clarity, when i was about 16 ..in my nievity i bought the meantioned pair of tower speakers for peanuts from a second hand shop without thinking to check them over.
they lasted all of an afternoon before i immedately put them up for sale again. i guess there is a market out there for them, which doesnt mind some of their 'shortcomings' ..tho i really wasnt in that crowd frankly ;) as for 2nd hand cabinets of the hifi variety which will cost you sod all at a car booter.. but arent bad. look out for the 1960's leak speakers with aluminum sandwich cones ..pretty good, but not spl demons ;) (designed for valve amps) ..for something a little more serious power, for the hifi faire ..there were some very nice, large speakers in the mid 90's from cerwin vega ..not major league 'audiophile' stuff ..tho you maybe lucky enough to find them at a car booter for peanuts too ;) :) Edited by nineleaves - 17 January 2009 at 3:42am |

Leak Sandwich with the Al cones was a nice design, I've owned quite a few over the years, payed 0-50. They come in a few variations around the tweet (AlNiCo for some)...
The winner of 'budget old car boot integrated amp' would be definitely the NAD 3020/7020...0-50 again. I have enough of these to fill several lock-ups...but that's for another time and place.

Yeah, i think car boot sales and flea markets occasionally throw up something good for small money. I bought a pair of Castle Conways (mark 1) for a tenner a few years back.
Had to get the bass drivers reconed and also replaced all components on the crossover. Total cost 150 quid. But they sound awesome. |

I used to sell those NAD (New Acoustic Dimension!) 3020's when they were new Deadbeat...little slim black amp, about 2x25w if i remember,....hifi would go in fads back then,if you happened to be the maker of the next "in" product, they would fly off the shelves....the Pioneer PL12D turntable was another (we sold hundreds of those),followed by the Sansui SR222....another popular one was the JVC KD720 cassette deck...all good stuff...cheap and cheerful, but sounded good for their price.
NAD 3020...watch out for them at boot sales.
