Sorry I mean I got 4.0mm2 not 5mm but yeah I still found that hard going into NL4FX. It’s the actual bare strands going into the hole I found the trickiest part of the whole process of doing this Sound System, I saw all kinds of videos showing solder or twist but only saw the video about the ‘Ferrule Crimps’ yesterday, I’ve just looked at the other Post you refer to and yes that definitely would have been handy
 knowing that post existed is like wiring a Plug and realising you haven’t put the screw end on and having to redo the whole thing…something else I did a few times! Was just doing one of the last 5mm2 cables into a NL4FX and I found removing the little metal (shoe horn) thingy then inserting it once the wire is in a lot easier! Shame I found it out on my last 2 cables
typical always the way!But I’ll get a cable tested as I imagine moving cables or worse if a cable gets squashed/damages it will show too! (I don’t even want to think of cables getting damaged the cost of it

AV not AC  Like this .. https://amzn.eu/d/7XWsgaH I go through one of these a year. You can find cheaper ones with out 8 pole Speakon. Also fast checking signal cables. Saves a lot of time. The tester will last you a lot longer than for me I think. The state some of our cables come back in  I've moved all our speakons over to nl4fxx as I find sketchy NL4. I have a whole bin of failed XLR signal etc that are no longer a causing problems at events thanks to those testers.

Ferrule crimp is that what you've seen? It's always good to double/triple check your work. A cheap 'AV cable tester' from Amazon or ebay with the speakon sockets on it can be very helpful to reduce paranoia.

Hello again! After fitting 20+ NLF4X plugs to cable I found them a nightmare especially when it came to 5mm2 cable so for last x2 I got their successors the green NLF4XX-WS and I found them so much easier to fit!
When I was searching how to fit them I found a YouTube video in Thai (or Vietnamese) and at the end of their wire they had a Male crimp terminal that fit perfectly into the female Neutrik +/- plug! I’ve done all my cable now but does anyone know the term for these end crimps as I’m just paranoid after seeing another YouTube Video that if I have any stray/broken wires in the NLF4X they could cause a problem so wondering if I should revisit my plugs! Or am I worrying about nothing!

On both the Crown XLI3500 and Inuke it is possible to access both outputs on a single NL4 connector, that is convenient when using the amp in bridged mode or if you were powering 2 separate drivers inside the same cabinet.
In your case it won't help so you just need to attach each pair of wires to a separate NL4 connector using the 1+/1- pins or connect the bare wire ends to the binding posts.. you don't even need Bananas. If this config will never change just wire to the binding posts... + wire to RED, - wire to Black. Left 2.5mm Cable: R (Mids 1+) - QSC GX3 - CH1 B (Mids 1-) - QSC GX3 - CH1 G (Horn 2+) - QSC 950 (Banana) CH1 Must be the old USA850.. 3U case? QSC - The back of the GX3 Speakon ports only says ‘Pos 1+ Neg 1-‘.
Crown XLi3500 - back below CH2 says Pin 1+CH2/1-CH2 then Below CH1 says Pin 1+CH1/1-CH1 & 2+CH2/2-CH2 INuke 6000 - back says CHB 1+/1- then Below CHA says 1+/1- & CHB 2+/2-. So you can see why I’m having doubts/confused & want to double check ! All saying the same thing differently and QSC doesn’t even mention 2+/2-! Here is how they enter the patch panel via x4 lots of 4core. Left 2.5mm Cable: R (Mids 1+) - QSC GX3 - CH? B (Mids 1-) - QSC GX3 - CH? G (Horn 2+) - QSC 950 (Banana) Y (Horn 2-) - QSC 950 (Banana) Right 2.5mm Cable: R (Mids 1+) - QSC GX3 - CH? B (Mids 1-) - QSC GX3 - CH? So I’m guessing as I’m only putting a +/- through each channel I can use 1+ & 1- on CH A (CH 1) & CH B (CH 2) - but I’m double checking that if one Channel is pin 1+/1- does the other Channel then need to be through pins 2+/2-

Just break it down simply for yourself.. you have 2 separate pairs in the nl4.. +1 -1 and +2 -2... you can either use it as a single cable to a speaker (+1 -1) or you can use a patch panel of some kind or just physically split the cable into 2 pairs, to send a different amp channel into the two pairs.. just make the nl4 sockets in your speakers are receiving the correct signal to the correct driver before giving it loads of beans!!

Boxes all wired, Links made but I need to check something: Q. The wires from the patch panel sockets when they get to the connectors going into the Amp L/R (CH1/CH2) which pin sets do i go into? Do I stick with 2-2+ for Green & Yellow or do they now go into 1-1+ on their sockets now that the 4-core has been separated off to designated amp/CH? |
