I stumbled across a US based website that stocks P.Audio drivers years ago trying to find out what I could get my hands on in Canada at the time....

I'm having a hard time getting my phone to copy a proper page link, but I checked and they do still have them listed

Yeshi djthunder I’m not sure if that driver would handle the X1’s cab it’s fairly brutal and demands a lot from a driver will even shred fane colossus xb I’d take a look at the cf18vjd driver by celestion has a 5”voice coil so I’m assuming will take more hammer it’s a bit mor money to buy but least drivers won’t last so long term will be far more cost effective

Void drivers and P. Audio drivers are not a good option for me, as I live in the US, and it would be pretty expensive to have pay for them and pay shipping on top of that to get them here.  Looking for an alternative driver that will work well, hopefully in the $300 or less USD range that's available in the states.  If nothing in that price range works that's available in the states, then that's just that... but checking.  Drivers I was looking at is the Celestion FTR18-4080FD.

Here is a link to all the specs:
https://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/specs/294-2014-celestion-ftr18-4080fd-specifications.pdf

Mounting depth is 8.07 inches.

Would this work in the X1?  Are there other alternatives in the US that would work well?
If there isn't a good driver option at $300 each or below in the US, I understand.  You can't always have exactly what you want...ha.  That's life.  Just want to investigate if there is a option within my driver budget :)

Thanks in advance :)

hi djthunder
The X1’s only play upto around 80hz then you will need some kicks as the X1’s won’t reach high enough th meet the midrange section also I use void v18 in mine with excellent results I don’t think the celestion fits on depth check put void v18 on blue aran

The X1 diagram shows a cut off around 100 Hz.  I cross over at about 100 Hz.  Should be fine, no?  I could cross over a bit lower if needed for that matter, as I use 15" two ways for tops.

The X1 is a ‘proper’ sub and you might find it doesn’t run high enough for your tops in that environment. Have you considered something like a THAM (15 or 18”) or XoC1 tapped horn?

Hey Everyone!  I am a bit new here, but have built a lot of speakers in my 46 years on this earth.  Not all of them good...LOL.  I am kind of like a green belt in Karate... I know enough to get myself in trouble probably.  I have built a lot of basic Bass Reflex subwoofer cabs, but have also built a pair of Tuba30 Sub horns, and a pair of Titan48 Sub horns (Bill Fitzmaurice designs).  I loved my Titan48s, but desided to go more modular, so sold those and built 4 bass reflex cabs, about 6 cu. ft. and have been running around with those for a while (I am a mobile DJ)  Now I am starting to think I might like to find a happy medium, and move back down to 2 subs, but with more output than a standard bass reflex 18", which I know also means it will be a bit bigger.

That brings me to my interest in the X1 design.  The recommended PA Audio SD 18 sub is a bit pricey for me though.  I am looking for some alternative options.  I know that an alternative driver would need to have reasonably similar specs.  I also understand that being an 18" cone, that cone is going to have to be strong enough to not shred under high power in this kind of box.  Similar issues were talked about in the forums for the horns I built.

I don't know how close the specs have to be, but the Celestion FTR18-4080FD looks pretty close for thiele small parameters.

Also, I used a pair of Peavey Low Riders in my Titan 48s... given they were 15", and they stayed in good health... but the parameters are not as close as the Celestion mentioned before.

Would either of these subs work good?  I assume they would not be as ideal as the PA driver of course, but would they be worth the build?

Anything else around that price range that would work good?

Your input would be appreciated :)

I have 4x  RCF LF18x400 drivers.. wondering if I should make two X1 and two horns for upper range.
Any experience about x400 in X1 bandpass?

Be careful using anything other than the pd1850 or void v18 as this box will shred drivers with weaker cones and motors
