Hi all,
I'm planning on putting together a pretty basic pair of tops on a tight budget and have a few questions.
I've shortlisted:

12"s -  Eminence Delta 12A (400w)
Tweeters - Eminence APT 150V2 (35w)
X-overs - Eminence PXB2-3K5 (400w)

Both boxes will be connected in parallel and run off a bridged QSC RMX 1450, 200hz and above.

1) Am I making any glaringly obvious facepalm noob mistakes here, re. choice of drivers?
2) Will the APT keep up with the 12", or should I use something with a higher power rating?
3) The Delta has a spike in the response from 2k - 5k. Would crossing over to the APT at 5k instead of 3.5k maybe sound better, and am I right in thinking that would also increase the APT's power handling a little (if needed)?

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Don't wast your time. Buy some used speakers.

Put a wanted ad on here with your budget

look for some Celestion CXi tops...
Well made and cheap, sound good.

Then maybe build yourself a sub to go with if necessary.
One channel for the sub, the other channel for a pair of tops if you want to go down that route, and a 2 way active xover.
Things like the sub and active xover can be added should you want to grow.

Yes you have selected a supertweeter that should really only be used from 5khz up for added sparkle and a low/mid that really should only be used up to about 2khz, leaving a big gap right in the middle of the vocal range. If you cross the APT lower or the 12" higher it will sound terrible so use a proper compression driver and horn and cross them at about 2khz.

Yes that is cone breakup so best to avoid it. The Eminence passive crossovers are a starting point but you will need to add an L-pad to tame the CD output relative to the Delta and some impedance correction(zobel network) on the Delta as well otherwise your combined speaker/crossover response won't look anything like theory says it should. And after all that the finished product will need some EQ to sound respectable, you could build some of this EQ into the passive crossover but now you're getting to a point where the time and money invested might be better spent on another amp and some DSP... or some used speakers as others have suggested. The pic below is what a complete 2-way passive crossover should resemble.

Not for long, if you go anywhere near putting 700w through these things very little will remain unscathed, I'd suggest 1 box per channel unless you have some way to limit bridged output to about 3dB below wide open.

Compared to the original idea,  you'd almost be better off using a beta12cx and asd1001 and eminences crossover designed specifically for the coax. Reasonably good sound with no guesswork and still quite cheap.

Conanski.
Well. When you put it like that... ok. I'm definitely looking for used tops then I think lol.
(Thanks for the schooling. Better to find out now rather than after I've spent my hard earned!)

Thanks DSS.

Nikky, budget is £300 max. If I can score something better (used) for the same money and less headache then that's ideal. I'll look into it. Cheers for the no-nonsense advice.

Dylan, Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm really not clued up on what specific models I should be looking at for decent used tops, so if anyone else wants to throw in more recommendations, I'm all ears.

Yep.  I paid 400 for 4 RCF Event 1000.  Birch cab, obsolete 1" but they all work and 50 quids worth of Beyma will sort them if and when.
