Yeah..but what happens to the bit where the top driver in the kick section sits behind the 8" section...you just going to box it off and accept the useless space?

Regarding seperate boxes, I have been thinking a punisher size kick bin containing 2x15" x-tro style or 1x15 bent horn could be very usefull as it will stack well amongst/atop punishers. Above these could be a much smaller and lighter (easier to lift up high) 8"+1" which could be made trapezoid. Maybe something like this? if you want 2x8"

realy like the look of the pics from that first link but i cant even start when it comes to languages......

Hi,

I am )jeroen(, the guy from the dutch forum. I am thinking about making a prototype soon. This is the last version of the design:

2x12" 18Sound 12ND930
1x8"   B&C 8PE21
1x1"/1.4"

The design is made for the 18Sounds as low/mids, most of the other 12" speakers won't fit.

very nice design.

Do you know what the Reponse will be like from it? Is it designed with being used with a punisher?

Hey all

I babelfish-ed the pages of that forum, and although it only made marganally more sense (lol some of the translation was quite comical ) I am very interested in this design.

Phil Dekked, of your about would you mind speaking to your pals at NCA who import the 18 sound drivers, and see what price they can get the ones for this design for ( 2 x 18 sound 12ND930 instead of the normal punisher 15", plus the normal mid and high sections) and see how it compairs to the fairly steep cost of the normal punisher drivers?

And a question for Jeroen if you dont mind answering, what kind of dispersion does the cabinet have, and does it array well along the angles of the trapezoidal sides?

it looks like the dispersion will be about the same as for the original X-tro

about 60x40 above 2Khz probably

unfortunately I don't think this one it will array properly either, but will be a lot better in terms of comb filtering than the xtro

the MF will  overlap either way you put it = comb filtering is inevitable
the HF will have the same problems too, + some more, because it will not be close to another, thus it wil not sum corectly, and there will be no hf gain, just wider dispersion

anyway I like the design, I think is the furthest we can go with the curent technology.

Please note that the mid section can't be made to work perfect without having a hyperbolic reflector in it , to create a virtual sound source behind the enclosure so the dispersion could be corectrly controlled.

I saw this being implemented somewere, but in our case I don't think is feasable.

yeah, pretty much what i had thought, I was just hoping i may be wrong

Still a very interesting design though, and i thnk the double 12" section may work out a good bit cheeper than the double 15" one on the original.

with regards to the parabolic bit you mentioned, i think i have an idea of what you mean but would be interested in some more detailed explination if you don't mind.
